Panama: El Valle anyone??:
So my wife, baby boy, and I are planning to live in Panama for a year starting early 2016. We are planning on visiting in May to decide on a town to live in. We are looking for slow pace life, affordable cost of living with a 3k or less monthly budget, and looking for a place not to far from the beach or mountains life. Want to have plenty of restaurants and supermarkets as well in walking or cheap taxi distance. We also want to make sure there is medical care there and to be within 2-3 hours from PC. El Valle has struck us recently and wondering if anyone has experience there?? On our trip in May we will visit PC, Coronado, Gorgona, and El Valle for sure. Are these places that fit what our wants are?? Also are they safe? Good place to have a 2yr old ? El Valle seems like a perfect fit on paper so far. It's got supermarket, restaurants, a clinic, 30 mins from a beach, and it's only a could hours from th city. Any advice??
Thanks,
Aaron
Panama: Decided on Panama?? 1 year trip! Advice anyone??:
Hello,
My wife and are are in the beginning stages of planning a year long, mostly work free trip to Panama with our 1.5 year son. We plan to go early 2016. We have literally been digging into what Central American country to pick. As of now, Panama seems to be the one. It offers more infrastructure than some of the other countries but close in cost of living. We will be on a budget since we are just saving money this year and attempting to go down there and live for less than 3k per month for about a year. We are also going to scout it out in a couple of months and take a week long trip to Panama without the baby so we can look at the different towns, rentals homes, and overall to see if it's the place we want to go. We liked Belize at first, but it's seems the infrastructure is too far away from what we are accustomed to and it might be too much culture shock for us and baby. We need cell phones , electricity, laundry and hot water! Anyways, we are in early planning stages and wondering if anyone has advice about Panama for us? Some crucial things we need to do, or just in general good or bad stories to help us wih our decision. I would love to speak live with someone, email me, or just talk on here. We are really excited to take a year off from the rat race here in Atlanta Ga and we want to take this trip while my son is not in school. Also want to wake up everyday and spend it with my family. I'm a GM at a restaurant so obviously time with family is hard to come by. People will think we are crazy for doing this and spending a large chunk of savings to do it, but you only live once right? Also who said you had to spend all your retirement days while you are over 60. I'm 32 and my wife is 40 and we want to do this while still young. Is there anyone on here who has a similar story or just some good advice, please let me know on here or email @ avidon1115@gmail.com.
Also would it be hard for us to stay for a year?
Would I be able to get part time work just for income after a few months?
Is it safe?
How hard is it to travel in a car there with a baby?
Rental cars cheap?
Is it safe?
Where do expats live?
Will 3k per month budget allow us comfortable living?
Panama: Rental Information:
Hey there, my wife, baby boy, and I are planning to move to panama for a year right around the same time. Have you already been there for a visit? How is it? Are you retiring there? We are just wanting to take a year off from the rat race of Atlanta and saving money to try to live down there off about 3k or less per month. If you have any advice on the planning of your move I'm all ears. We are in the beginning stages and we are planning to visit Panama in a couple months to check out what town we like, rentals, and overall if we will really like it there. Who knows maybe we will love it so much and move there.
Belize: 1 year break...maybe more. Need advice:
Hello,
My wife and I are in the very beginning stages of planning a year long trip to Central America with our 16 month old son next year. We want a break from the rat race here in America. I want to hit the breaks and live for awhile. We have money saved and we an to save all this year and move sometime early 2016. We obviously would be on a budget because we would work right away or maybe at all. If I could get a small job I would maybe do that at some point, but right now we are researching the best place to go. Probably would have to be 1400-1800 per month to live. I keep leaning towards Belize. Seems like the most laid back and least amount of red tape to be able to stay there for a year. We are not of retirement age. I'm 32 and she is 40. WHi says you have to use all your retirement years when you are over 60?? Anyways, any advise about where to go or any info on realistic cost of life in Belize would be awesome. I want to do this sooo bad and it is passed the dream phase. We are planning. I just need a destination. Is Belize affordable, safe ,
Ok for a 2 year old, and could we get a job if we wanted to?? Could we get residency fairly easy if we wanted to stay? Any info would be great. Belize seems like a great option although I read it's smaller and less jobs available. But the job thing won't matter right away anyways. I'm raming at this point. Just looking for advice or anyone in my simar situation that actually made the move?
Global Expat Forum: Where should I live for a year:
Hello,
My wife and I are in the early stages of preparing to move abroad for a year beginning early 2016. We are still deciding on where. Also how! We are ready to leave the rat race and live in Costa Rica, Belize, Panama, or somewhere similar. I want to live cheaper and LIVE a more adventurous life. We just need some advice on where, how much money should we have to make it a year without much work. We also have a 1 yr old son. Any young expats out here that habe a similar story please advise. We are really eager and ready to start planning. Thanks.
Costa Rica: 1 year in Costa Rica..Advice:
Hello,
I am new to this forum. My wife and I are in the beginning stages of planning a 1 year retirement trip. Not sure where to go yet, but Costa Rica is on the list. We are attempting to build our savings to a specific amount, sell out home, and then go to our destination where we can live for about a year and spend time living life instead of working all The time. We do have a 17 month old boy who will be 2 by the time this happens. Is there anyone out there thay has done this. We are not retirement age. I am 33 and my wife is 40. I am a little overwhelmed at the moment because I not sure where to start. I figured the first thing we need to do is pick a place, take a short vacation there and decide if it's the right place. We are not wealthy people. I want to go somewhere and live a less costly life, but not completely indigent. We would like to rent a house and live somewhere affordable and possibly live around 2k or less per month. Is this possible in Costa Rica?? I have heard both yes and no answers. I'm really just trying to get some good advice and possibly even meet someone that I could develop a relationship with so we could email or talk on the phone, so I could get come good advice on what to do. Maybe also a tour guide for when we visit. This has passed th dream phase and I am ready to save this year sell the house and do everything else I can to be out of the US by early 2016. Anyone out there have any simar experience??
