Mexico: Its the Pollution!:
I live in the area of Ajijic/Chapala. I have only been here for a month but the pollution is getting to me. I had no idea that this beautiful area was so heavily polluted. There is a constant haze and most days right now I can't even see across the lake. Then there is the controlled burning like a couple of days ago very near me. You could see the heavy smoke as it lingered in the area. There must have been several controlled burns on that same day because it was right after that the heavy haze filled the air. The particulate matter was really out there as I did breath some in and then got sick as a dog. Oh, the coughing has been pretty much none stop and no remedy seems to put an end to it. What to do, what to do?
I would like your experience and your opinions please. Tell me please about this pollution. Is it multiplied because we are also receiving a good dose from Guadalajara?
Mexico: I am in need of a place to live in Ajijic:
Good Morning Community!
I have been living in Puerto Vallarta going on three months but I want to move to Ajijic. I know it is high season but I won't let that discourage me in my hopes of finding a nice place to live in Ajijic.
If anyone knows of a place please let me know.
Here are some of the basics.
Looking for either a one or two bedroom furnished apartment or small casita.
Most important is I have a house cat and want a small dog as soon as I can find one.
A must is to have screens on the windows for keeping kitty inside.
One bathroom is okay.
Lots of windows for sunshine.
My own hot water source.
Easy access to the bus or taxi.
Unfortunately I don't speak Spanish.
I am originally from New Mexico but actually came from an 8 month visit to Ecuador....then to PV.
Since I am not a spring chicken I can't be climbing hills,/mountains or stairs above a second floor.
I have heard that the nights there are chilly so I would need a heat source in the house.
Now my wish list:
I am an avid vegetable gardener so green space to do that would be a very big plus.
Please talk around to your friends and let me know if there is a little place for me now in your community.
I would plan to move the first week of February. Thank you all for any help or suggestions you can provide.
Most Sincerely,
JasmineinNM
Mexico: Oh where, oh where can Velveeta Cheese be found in PV:
I am really wanted a 32 oz. block of Velveeta Cheese Original so I can make cheese sauce with Rotele and green chiles. I couldn't find it any where in Ecuador and I can't find it here.
Now Walmart is a common carrier of this product in the states as is Costco and Sam's Club.....but they don't carry it here.
I checked the "imported food" store in PV and they don't have it.
I tried to order it from Walmart with a "ship to store in PV" and that didn't work.
So....does any one know where this food item can be found to purchase in PV?
Thanks
Mexico: Newbie:
Hello Newbie,
I am not meaning to sound negative but where do you get the idea that it is easy to ship into Mexico?
I recently opened up a "Mailboxes, Etc. mailbox. They gave me a list of items that cannot be shipped into or out of Mexico. The list is very long and seems to me that almost nothing can be shipped in here. Please correct me if I am wrong. Perhaps the list is something more due to the mailing company putting their own restrictions on. I will have to inquire about that but from what I know at this point it doesn't seem that very much can be shipped into Mexico. I do hope you prove me wrong.
Mexico: Is Puerto Vallarta Okay?:
I have been keeping up with Hurricane Patricia and wanted to inquire.....did Puerto Vallarta receive much damage from the hurricane? I read where tourists were returned to their hotels already. Please tell me how are things down there and do you still have power and water? I wanted to come down there before the hurricane and was very deeply saddened when I found out about the hurricane. I prayed hard for the preservation of all the people and animals. I am having a hard time finding out any current information about how the city survived and what damage was done. Please let me know if you know. Thank you kindly.
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Wanted - Apartment in Vilcabamba:
If you have a nice open, airy, bright with lots of light apartment in Vilcabamba I am seriously interested.
Two bedrooms is nice but I can make do with one bedroom. I do need a full size refrigerator and stove. I have one house cat named Isaac and just me. I do need some furnishings like a bed, sofa and kitchen table,
Please let me know right away as I am very anxious to move out of Cuenca and go to Vilca. I am a gardener so if you have green space for gardening that is a big plus. Thank you.
Ecuador: Thinking about Cuenca. Please Advise!:
I second some facts.
Cuenca is cold.
Inside the house or apt. is cold. I never get warm.
It rains constantly and the sun doesn't shine very much.
I tried living in Cuenca twice and am leaving again because it is too cold and wet.
The food is awful, boring and lacks imagination. I hate rice and beans. I especially hate rice served with mashed potatoes and beans. The spices here are very limited. The food is bland and tasteless. I have gone back to home cooking out of desperation trying to find something to eat that is delicious because you won't find delicious eating out.
It is cold in Cuenca.
If you like warmth and sunshine go to Vilcabamba or Yungilla valley.
The food selection in the grocery stores is limit and I mean limited. If you like pumpkin pie you had better bring canned pumpkin with you.
Cuenca is cold. Did I mention that Cuenca is cold!!!!!!!!!!!
