Philippines: TV, surround system:
I have a Samsung 40" LED tv and a Pioneer Surround system (MCS333) both with original packaging in perfect shape which I no longer need(moved into furnished apartment in Cebu).
Where would be the best place to list these items on line or elsewhere in Cebu city?
Thank you.
Philippines: US credit bureau issues:
I just recently discovered multiple adverse accounts on my report based on medical bills that were not paid. I assumed they had been through insurance. I take responsibility for them and will settle them.
There is a chapter 7 bankruptcy discharged public record with date paid. The estimated removal is 2019.
My questions:
Will paying the adverse accounts improve my score by a significant amount (i.e. Will I get my money's worth in an up tic of score?)
Does the chapter 7 info pull my number down and if so is there way to measure or confirm this?
Any suggestions of creditable (pun intended) online sites which provide council about this?
How long after making payments on the adverse accounts will my score improve?
Thank you as this is my first time dealing with a credit report in over thirty years.
Philippines: Medicare debacle:
I am experiencing an extraordinarily difficult time with Medicare: misplaced payments, exclusion from Part B, constant requests for payments and long distance phone calls which are non productive!!
Could someone please provide useful suggestions or possible people to contact which may assist me?
Thank you.
Philippines: Cebu house for rent/cr1visa:
I have been living here for two years and miss the seasons and all they bring; being originally from Maine that is a lot, lol. Therefore I am beginning the process to return with my Filipina wife. First up is obtaining a cr1 visa. Would appreciate any advice on that arduous journey!! I especially need to know how many years of tax forms I need for affidavit of support (and where to get a current copy of affidavit) among other questions.
The house rents for 26,300 plus all the normal utilities on a one year lease. It is a three story duplex in a gated, guarded small and established compound in Banawa just 4 minutes walk from a small but adequate mall as well as wet and dry markets, banks etc. and ten minute walk to Capitol area. There are four large bedrooms with own shower/bath, huge kitchen, outdoor dirty kitchen, maid's quarters with bathroom, laundry area and a wonderful veranda over looking the food hills of Cebu. It is basically fully furnished. I purchased tv, DVD player, microwave, water cooler, washing machine, small tables and other small items that I will either take or sell cheap, no big deal either way.
I am just putting it out there for the general community in case anyone is looking.
Please just private message me and I will be glad to respond and help.
As that is what this site has done for me these past three years.
Thank you everyone, JanWillem
I have given my notice and will be out by December 15th.

Philippines: Marry here or there!??!:
Hello I am a US citizen and have been living here now two years with my Philippine GF. Marrage has always been a consideration for us. Recently my own financial situation took a turn for the better so now the both of us want to move to the US.
My primary question revolves around the issue of her entering the US with the least amount of hassles.
The question for which I would appreciate some input is: should we marry here or there????
Thank you all.
Philippines: Sending small document:
Left my American drivers license behind in Cebu. However now I need it to rent a car while in England for a few weeks. Could someone please suggest a quick, reliable method/company to use for sending it along to me here in England??
Thank you very much, JanWillem
Philippines: my trip my love:
I live in barangay Banawa, abutting Guadalupe, right behind One Pavillion (local shopping mini mall)in a guarded older development. I have lived in this area two years. I have NEVER had a cause to worry about safety in this greater area day or night. It IS noisy and polluted generally speaking, however that is the norm here especially for one of the largest cities in the Philippines!
Having said that it is quiet in the compound. Before settling on this one I checked out two similar ones in Guadalupe, both were quiet also. It is a matter of boots on the ground and determining what works for you. There are countless opportunities to rent in the greater Cebu area at all levels of cost.
I would recommend renting a week or two at one of the local pension houses; the Casablanca is perfect, I stayed there for two weeks while researching. It is centrally located, reasonably priced and clean.
When are you returning? I would be happy to help you get started if I am around.
Good luck, JanWillem
Philippines: magic jack in the Phil:
An excellent COST FREE smartphone app is Whatsapp. I have been using it to receive and call here and abroad in multiple countries for two years. A cross platform, multimedia, cross border method for easy, reliable (and as of today encrypted) communication. I like the group feature for my family and friends. It is powered via any internet connection.....free!
PLDT prepaid cards are a viable alternative if no internet while here in Philippines. I purchase them in 100 or two peso increments. Calling US and GB is only 1 and a half pesos a minute!!
Happy chatting.....
Philippines: Health service:
Here in Cebu fire trucks, police nor ambulances are able to navigate quickly through the snarly traffic. You would be better served via GrabTaxi !!
Here in Cebu at doctor's (my experiences based on just two years) you'll be accommodated same day and my three different doctors (cardo, GP, and ortho) charge 500 pesos per visit.
My one emergency room visit last year was quick, professional, caring-based and inexpensive.....less then 1000 pesos for a two hour visit with tests.
My annual last month included a chest ex-ray for 435 pesos, complete blood work-up at 4,135, extensive heart echo plus reader fee at 4,350. All completed as a walk-in within a few (3)hours.
Yearly Dental check up is 500 pesos. All other services are easily 1/4 of US fees.
