Mendoza and Salta areas both have high and dry climates, Tucuman and areas more easterly in Argentina too humid. I live in Mendoza, and am Canadian, let me know if you want any info on Mendoza area.

Argentina: 90 day visa rule:
First, you do not say where you are from in your message or profile. If you are from Australia, the USA or Canada, you will have to get an expensive visa beforehand for the Brazil side of Iguazu. This can be obtained on weekedays at the Brazilian counsulate at Puerto Iguazu over 24 hours. This is NOT the case for uruguay, where they will just give you a 90 day tourist visa.
Second, they will let you come and go the same day out of and into Argentina if they have no reason to belieive you are abusing the system to reside in Argentina. That is at the discretion of the Immigration official, and usually there are no problems.
Third, if you have overstayed your Argentine 90-day tourist visa, you will have to pay a fine before leaving the country at Immigration. This usually takes 1 to 2 hours (before checkin) at Ezezia airport, but for any other exit location you need to have gone to an Immigration office within 10 days, get the documentation started, take a slip to a crowded Banco de Nation and pay the 300 pesos fine, and go back to Immigration to get your approval stamped to leave within 10 days.

Argentina: Converting Argentine pesos into USDollars:
Yes, not for other bank accounts.
Argentina: Getting money into Argentina:
First, the bank branches here are not really branches, they are separate legal entitites. The fact that you have an acoount or priveledges for your US bank account , it does not mean you have the same priveledges here with the "same" bank. Second, it is the law that dollars cannot be given except for certain citizens or legal residents who have applied for and given a limited priveledge by AFIP, the national tax agency..... If it costs less, it is only because of a policy giving you priveledges from your home bank, like the home bank waiving their normal rights to a service fee for using their card.
