Thailand: How can I get a Thai retirement visa ??:

Getting a visa in a country that is not your own can definitely be a problem. My Thai wife and I went to the Thai Embassy in Buenos Aires and asked if I could get a Non Immigrant Category O visa and they didn't quite know what to do. My passport was full of expired ones. She pretty much told me the same story you got. Immigration rules in Thailand are always in flux. Once I got a 1 year category O in Germany at an honorary consulate. I told the lady how to fill it out. This is a long shot but it worked for a friend of mine. He came in on a 30 day tourist visa and when it was up he went to Panang, Malaysia and, with his Thai girlfriend pleading at his side, requested a 1 year O. And they gave it to him. He turned into a long stay and has been here for 12 years. Keep me posted and maybe I'll see you here in Chiang Mai. One other thing, check out Thaivisa.com.

Thailand: Pension:

I did not have to show any paper work. Americans can sign a form in the presence a consular officer stating we have the required income. I did that at the Consulate in Chiang Mai and then took it to Thai Immigration.

Thailand: Greetings from Colombia. Questions:

Hi Jason, I have lived in Chiang Mai off and on since 1999. My wife is North Thai from Chiang Rai. I have made long term visits to Buenos Aires and liked it a lot. Recently I read something about Cali, Columbia on this forum and got interested in checking it out. I guess most of us on this forum have Gypsy Feet. I suggest you try for a one year Category O visa. You have to make a visa run every 90 days. I enjoy my visa runs. Getting out of Thailand once in a while is necessary for a lot of us. I looked for Spanish but the only thing I found was a group thru the Pattaya Expats Group. Never saw anything in CM. Be sure and check out the Thaivisa.com website.

There is an on-line mag called Four Flags Journal in which I have seen a write up or two about Bariloche. Might be worth a look. info@fourflagsjournal,com

Also you can usually buy over-the-counter w/out Rx and shop around for the best price.

Thailand: social security deposits:

Bangkok Bank will handle all the paper work for you. I transfer money to them from USAA Bank. No fee from USAA but BKKBnk takes a bit. Also you can do a wire transfer from Everbank for 25 bucks which is a good option for larger amounts.

Does anyone know of some furniture stores that carry recliners?

Argentina: Moving plan:

Will this be your first trip to BsAs? For how long are you planning to stay? I used a vacation rental site for the first two months and was quite happy about it. Got my deposit back the day I moved (the same $100 bills I had given them) If you are going to stay for 6 months or longer I know of a pretty nice unit but don't know if it is currently vacant.
