Bahamas: Least expensive way to get items shipped to Nassau:
Yes, that is the cheapest way to get items over to Nassau. We lived there in 2015 when BahaMar was suppose to open. My husband and I each took 3 checked bags and 1 carry on. The first bag was $25, second $50 and third $150. We also shipped two smaller boxes over and it cost us $350 a box!!! Rookie mistake. If you are coming over alone, I don't think airlines will allow you to bring so many suitcases but just check on their individual websites.
Bahamas: Bringing a pitbull from the us to the bahamas to live:
It was really hard for us to get forms mailed to us in the USA when we tried to bring our lab over, so my husband arrived 2 weeks before I did so he went to the office himself and picked up the forms. Then we had to get vet checked 24 hours prior to flight take off. Delta flies large dogs under the plane, it's sad to watch but at least we got her there. Bahamians aren't too fond of dogs, so be careful especially with larger dogs, make sure to leash them all the time.
Bahamas: Youth sports leagues, social and security:
Hi! I don't have children of my own but I know kids that went to school at Lyford Key and they have so many actives for the children to do there. I am sure it is the same for the other couple of private schools on the island. I wanted to recommend Nirvana Beach, this beach is the most populated, around 20 people weekday and more on the weekends. Its a great place for your family to hangout and feel safe. There is a little hut that is always open that you can order drinks and food. You can rent kayaks and other water activities. I snorkeled there weekly, there is great coral, with so many different fish you can see. And the best part is it is right off the water so if you buy sets for your kids its a free activity for them. The water is always warm and not many days with a lot of waves. Its the perfect water for floating, kayaking, snorkeling. The outdoor activities might be different from what your kids are use to but I am sure they will get the hang of the water. Another pretty populated beach is Cable Beach, not as much coral but I saw turtles almost every morning I went walking in the water. I would recommend your wife and kids staying at more of the populated beaches to make sure they are safe.
Bahamas: flight path noise?:
I lived in Nassau for 8 months and my close friend was on Love Beach and that is the flight pattern of 95% of the planes that land in Nassau. They go every 10-15 min so it can be very loud, I never got use to it and I was there everyday. Bayroc is a bit further east so I am not sure of that location.
Bahamas: RECYLE:
There's a recycling drop off in the middle of the island in the parking lot of the New Providence Church. (middle of the island)
Bahamas: Dogs:
Hi, if you are only switching planes and not leaving the airport you shouldn't need anything more than what Long Island requires. When we moved to Nassau when leaving customs they check all your paperwork for your animal. Customs is after you pick up all your bags so switching gates you do not pass that area. But I would call the Dept of Agriculture in Nassau to double check.
Bahamas: GARBAGE:
I think this is a great idea. I walk Goodman Bay quite frequently and it is so sad to see the amount of trash everywhere. The trash cans are always overflowing so that doesn't help the situation. Maybe the city needs to pick up the trash more often than once a week, I believe I normally see them on Tuesdays. I would love to help out in anyway possible. ie- more trash cans, talking to the city about picking up the trash more often, signs etc...
Bahamas: Friends need a temporary place to live:
Hello, If anyone has a place they are renting out, my friends need a temporary place to live. They have two little dogs and are looking around $2,000/month. they need from September 13th- October 13th. Thanks! Pls PM me if you have a place. (they are a couple.)
Bahamas: Moving to Bahamas:
Hello! I would suggest moving somewhere west of downtown all the way west. The north west side of the island is the safest, depending on your housing allowance I would live in Sandiport or Balmoral. There are also some nice apartments along cable beach that are gated, just not with security. You'll be fine if you stay away from downtown and the east after dark. I've been here 6 months and feel safe being here. The beaches are great and you can get fresh fish from the local markets everyday. Living is expensive, about 2-3 times what you would find in a Target or US store. That is something to get use to, I just have friends/family bring me over household items when they come to visit me. I try to only buy food on the island. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Bahamas: FRESH FISH:
Does anyone know if this is open on Sundays? Would love to have fresh lobster tomorrow for dinner. I have only been on Saturday's and not Sunday's. Thanks.
