Jamaica: bringing in fur;niture and stuff:
I just want to underscore our similar experience. My wife and I moved to Manchester as well last year. We did a lot research and actually had a good experience until our goods reached Jamaica.
I've heard worse stories for sure, but paying all the fees was a huge burden. I also wanted to ship a car recently since we supposedly have this allowance but the cost was so unpredictable after the point it reached the port I decided against it.
Lastly, I've run in to some furniture makers and plan to have some pieces made. Made to our specifications, and cheaper then you might expect.
Jamaica: Buying a car:
We just got moved to Mandeville and need a vehicle. Although my wife is a returning citizen I am the one with the income - US citizen. Banks don't cater to our situation. Any expats know of a deal we can get on either financing or private purchase arrangement on a vehicle? Nothing fancy for now just reliable and affordable. Appreciate any input.
Jamaica: Will I really save money if i move to Mandeville?:
Hi folks. I have been doing a lot of research on our impending move to Jamaica. Moving costs are known, we found a beautiful home in Mandeville. I basically understand utility costs for the area, and having a vehicle.
My wife is Jamaican, I am a US citizen. I work from home but need to travel to my clients so as long as I can get to the airport and fly to the US should be no problem. And work in my home office reliably.
On paper it looks like we can save a ton of money moving to this location in Jamaica. What practical things might I not be considering that will bite me?
Conveniences? Consistent Internet Access? Reliable utilities? Other hidden costs? Legalities?
Thank you!
