Belize: How to Find Housing in Corozal:
It s also an option to stay in a hotel for the first month. Some offer huge discounts like the Mirador or the Cactus. Also the Seabreeze and Copper Horse are rather cheap.
As there is theft going on in Cactus I would not stay there personally.
If you walk through town you will se property options. A 2 BR house is around 300 USD.
Belize: Those Posting Not Living In Belize:
I have been around for close to half a year now and I unfortunately have to agree with a lot (but not all) of the negative stuff people post here.
In the end it only helps to find out yourself.
Belize: places to buy in Belize:
I looked at many properties, in general it is not smart to buy as you can usually rent cheaper. But I can tell you a bit about what I found out.
In general it is very hard to sell after you bought, some properties are listed for multiple months, some for years. I m following mainly Corrozal and Placencia. The ares are very different.
While Placencia has a sandy beach and a very small local population it is fully designed to be a tourism destination. They have good reataurants, modern gyms a nightclub, etc.. I m excited to go there in summer but my guess is that the place will be dead. Real estate is rather pricy but you have the chance to do a vacation rental during high season Nov - April and recover some of your investment. As prices are high I could not find good deals yet. Placencia attracts a younger crowd.
Corozal is in comparison run down, It is very cheap but there is no beach at all. The advantage here is that the property prices are a lot less and that the city is just a short drive from the Mexican boarder. On the Belizian side it s hard to find good food, a gym, a bar that s open after midnight or a bigger supermarket.
The main problem for the real state market is that there is no real credit system in place. It is very hard to get financing for property so I assume it is mainly expats selling for cash to other expats.
I put in some lowballs for properties at around 30% of asking to see with what they come back and you can get significant discounts to asking prices. It is very hard to get a good return on your investment independent of that. If you want to make money you should look at a booming market which ist definitly not Belize right now.
Belize: Best place for family with kids?:
This question pops up here so often. Again: In general you can do it with 3k a month for 4 people but on a very low lifestyle. I would not recommend to do it.
Belize: Suggestions for exploration:
I think that trip is kind of too much, I had a friend coming down fom Canada recently and after I picked him up at Belize City We drove Placencia and stayed there 3 nights. Than we drove to with a short stay in Hopkins for some hours. In Corozal we were 1 night and took the ferry to Ambergris where we stayed another 3 nights. Back to Corozal, another night and than back home the next day.
That trip was exhausting despite we had our own vehicle.
Belize: Planning our move to Belize:
Hello
the internet in Belize is usually very slow as the prices for faster connections are ludicrous.
In Mexico, Europe and North America usually speed in the cities are up to 200 mbps, so 200 times the speed Allan mentioned he got in his house.
In Belize a 16mbps line from BTL or Smart costs around 200 USD a month. And that is the fastest you can usually get.
Some people in Consejo get internet and TV from Mexico at fast speeds.

Sometimes I had to smile reading your posting. There is only one way to find out: Board a plane and come here.
I personally think Belize is not the place you are looking for but good luck!
