Hi, Sorry to upset you but you only get the tax breaks for the first two yrs.Look at your contract and see if your company will help you out at all. Other wise look to downsize regarding car and accomodation. Here in Austalia the immigration laws change every 3-4 months depending on what the country needs! Dose your company have an H.R. who can help you nego with the company for a better deal? Regards Jennnifer.

Australia: Moving to OZ with family:

Hi, We are a family who moved to Sydney 18 mths ago with three children. You do not state what work you are looking for or if your wife will be working? We are happy to help sending info but need to know more about your work ,living requirments to be of any help. And have you got any family over here? It is a very emotional move and it takes at least 12 months to start to settle in a new country.Looking forward to hearing from you. Regards Jennifer.

Australia: Advice on coming to Oz:

Hi Cinders, You may have already decided which city is more for you. Accomodation is more expensive in Sydney but if you move to the sub s for either city it is much the same. For a young person without family I think Sydney has more to offer but once here you can see both and maybe get chance to do a yr in each! Good luck and have lots of fun. Jennifer.

Australia: VERY itchy feet...:

Hi, Dont be so negative or you will never get here.It took us 18 yrs and four children later but we have done it. First get a job out of suuny scotland and save up for your airfare . Go onto The Sydney Herald Newspaperjob page there are a lot of jobs out here for IT guys so dont give up.Have you got a driving licence if so your half way here. Why not come over as a student get caual work here and see if it is all you want. We love scotland and it will always be home but work and housing is so expensive you will love the cost of living here and will miss the beer!Dont give up and if we can be of any help with Australian job sites and help meet you at the airport, finding accomodation and introducing you to the younger expats our sons will help all they can Us Scots have to stick togeather.

Australia: homesick:

Hi, Please do not think you are on your own everyone who moves to Australia feels depressed at some point. Australians are very different and I can only say that join the American net works here will at least give you voices that remind you of home. Having travelled most of the world as much as I love Australia the people have no real concept of what you and other expats are going through .It will help if you see your doctor for a short dose of antidepressents they will help you see things a bit clearer and give you a helping hand emotionaly to join an American support group. Please do not feel you are alone your not. Having 3 sons 24 down to 12 they have all found Australia the hardest country to make friends and the only way forward is to meet other expats who realy do understand . Hope this helps.God bless.
