Portugal: Insurance for application. HELP!!!:

You could also try insuremytrip.com. They have policies for any length of stay up to one year, and you can compare policies easily on their site. My husband and I found one that was reasonably priced and covered everything necessary for the consulate approval. Good luck!

Portugal: Long term rental lease and needing a guarantor?:

My husband and I rented an apartment in Lisbon last fall, and were expected to provide a guarantor. We got around it by offering to pay 7 months of rent up front. A friend who is French offered 2-3 months rent up front, and it worked for her as well. I'm not sure if it would always work, however. The guarantor requirement, I've been told, is also for Portuguese nationals, not just foreigners.

Portugal: Advice on international moving companies (U.S. to Lisbon):

Hi, my husband and I moved to Lisbon last fall from the U.S. and are now trying to find a trustworthy international mover. This is harder than I expected, as I keep finding terrible reviews online written by customers of the companies that I am looking into, or, alternatively, requesting a quote from a company and then having them give me such a lowball quote that I wouldn’t dare trust them. We want to either fill a 20” container or maybe have a mover crate about 700-800 cubic feet of our stuff and then we would share a container. I wonder if anyone who has done this (from the U.S. especially) would share your experience with shipping household goods and furniture, and give recommendations of moving companies to try or to avoid? Thanks very much for your help.

Portugal: Big red bridge, devs, startups: Guess the city behind this tech boom (hint: it's not San Fran):

Very interesting article, thanks for posting the link!

Portugal: over qualified age for visa?:

Have you tried websites such as insuremytrip.com? It's travel insurance, but you can buy a policy of one year's duration that satisfies the requirement, and I don't think there is an age limitation. I know of someone who is 71 who has lived in France for over 2 years now, and he buys a policy from them every year. My husband and I bought a year-long policy from them before we moved to Lisbon in September. The price was reasonable, and it includes the repatriation, etc that is required, along with sickness and injury care and some hospital, in all foreign countries. Even 1 month of coverage when we visit the U.S.! No wellness coverage, but prices are not high here for things like that.

Portugal: International Health Insurance:

We used insuremytrip.com, and had a good experience. Easy website to negotiate, easy to compare plans. We ended up with a plan that suited us and was within our budget. The only downside: since it is trip insurance, we can't cancel it once we're able to buy insurance here in Portugal--we had to pay for the entire "trip" of a year up front. But it is so reasonably priced, we decided we didn't care.

Portugal: Moving personal belongings to your new home:

Hi, We're moving to Lisbon shortly, and plan to ship some furniture by boat. Do you mind sharing what company you're using, for the 55 gal drum and for the furniture? Thanks.
