Portugal: nearest/ best town:
Hi Kim,
We just moved here and enrolled our son in Vale Verde. There are several towns you should look into. Lagos is probably the farthest east you want to be, otherwise the daily drive to school will get pretty long. It's a great town (we live there now) and has all the services you'll need - health centers, grocery stores, cute town, nice beaches. You'll get a mix of Portuguese and UK expats here.
Heading west a little, you'll run into Luz/Praia da Luz. It is a cute small town - and really mostly UK expats. I'm sure there are some Portuguese locals but there seems to be fewer than in Lagos.
Heading farther west, right after you pass the school is the town of Burgau. I love Burgau- its a super cute small town. We will be moving to that area in June. The biggest drawback of Burgau is a lack of large supermarket. However, Lagos is only about a 10 minute drive away so it isn't a giant problem. It has a small town feel, and has a cute beach in the center.
If you go a little father west, you'll run into the town of Salema. I don't know much about it, but I hear that it's super cute, and has that small town feel as well,
I'm not sure where you are coming from, we moved from the US. If you have any questions when you get out here, feel free to connect. We are still new to this as well so we can tell you what we've learned so far.
Cheers!
Stephanie
Panama: Schools in the Pedasi / Azuero area:
Hi - I've searched the forums and online, but can't find any answers. What are schooling options for kids in the Pedasi area (or anywhere in the Azuero Peninsula for that matter)?
I have a 10 year old son, and we love the region, but also need to make sure that his educational needs are covered.
Thanks in advance!
