Uruguay: Beds and curtains:
Hi Nancylevin - Friends of ours are moving & selling this size bed. It is in Punta Del Este. You can pm me if you want to connect to them. They are selling it with the mattress pad & sheets.
There are some Kings here from foreigners that brought containers but they are rare & the rooms are not large enough for them. Twins & Queens are the norm here.
Uruguay: Teens:
Our teenagers lead active lives in PDE - parties, hanging out at the mall or in the Peninsula, time with friends at their houses, etc. opportunities for surfing, biking, tennis, skate boarding, basketball, sailing & football/soccer. Movies are a popular outing. There is paint ball, laser tag, 4x4, parasailing, hang gliding, etc. but not as commercialized as in the U.S. Different country clubs as well - Cantegril & Club del Lago & Punta Ballena Yacht Club. Time at the beach is also popular.
If your teens want a social life & you do not want to worry about crime, PDE feels much safer than Montevideo.
Our kids were not happy leaving the Entertainment Capital of the World initially but have settled in & made friends, have active social lives & are now enjoying living here.
Uruguay: Schools:
There is a bilingual school in Minas. Not sure if it is public or private. Public schools do include English classes but it may only be for "English" class while private schools will have 1/2 the curriculum in Spanish & 1/2 in English.
Uruguay: reccomendations for veterinarian to clean dogs teeth?:
Hi Vortice. We use La Pastora in Pubta Del Este. Fantastic vet & excellent doctors that are bilingual. We have used them for a multitude of services & give them the HIGHEST possible recommendation. We have used them for our 4 dogs & 4 other street dogs we helped over the past few years & always a positive experience. Our lab was neutered so they use anesthesia & I expect they have the life-saving IV you desire.

Good luck!
Uruguay: Boarding school:
There is a school in Punta Del Este that is being built that will have a boarding option within 2 years. http://www.puntadelesteinternacional.com/international-college-desembarca-en-punta-del-este-con-una-inversion-de-us-25-millones/
Uruguay: Feeling a bit Overwhelmed:
Welcome! Uruguay definitely will offer a less hectic lifestyle. I think there will be no issues with finding work as a carpenter. If one does not possess strong spanish skills, I think there is still plenty of work opportunities with English speakers in Montevideo & Punta del Este.
There is a ton of information on this board about the questions you are raising so be sure to search the archives for these. Then it might be easier to ask more specific questions & get answers. It is hard to know where to start with your questions.
I think raising children here will be a much better environment than what it would be in South Africa. That said, the collapse of the Rand has caused many South Africans additional stress, some have had to leave, due to additional financial stress in an already costly country.
The carpentry allows more freedom of choice for where to live, Interior decorating is most likely most appreciated/valued/in demand in Punta Del Este & Montevideo.
Uruguay: Jewish in Uruguay:
There is a Jewish community that meets regularly in the Punta Del Este area. I know a nice Jewish woman that I could introduce you to if you come to Punta who is active in the group. I have not heard of any anti-Semitism but I can ask on your behalf if you would like.
Uruguay: Schooling/arriving with kidos:
Can provide insight to schools in Punta Del Este area. Sent you private message to connect up.
Uruguay: Zika:
Zika is a hoax & will be used to rake in huge corporate profits (with a vaccine of course) & as an excuse to spray you, your water & your land with insecticide.
