Uruguay: Newbie advise:
Whatsinaname, YES that is exactly what I did. Then, I came here and went to Antel and got " prepago" service, only because I am visiting for 3 weeks. Antel was great. I actually found Ebay better for unlocked Iphones. Hope this may assist others.
Uruguay: Trends in housing prices:
I can only add our personal experiences. Inflation is underway. We are in Punta Del Este suburbs- not on beach. Home prices are high to me. In Ciudad de LA Costa, taxes and home prices area high. We researched both areas. However, I think if you look other than where we are looking like Minas or LA Paloma or the outskirts, you may find lower prices. Personally, we have not found PDE to be higher than other coastal areas. I was kinda surprised because I thought PDE would be much pricer. But for what we are looking for prices are very similar . In fact I have found taxes higher in Ciudad than PDE.
Hope this may help a little. There are many good sites for home sales near the coast. I have also found people to be very helpful here.
Uruguay: Warning to new arrivals to Uruguay:
Morell,
Thank you very much for this information. I am planning a visit and would like to meet up with the PDE group. So again, thanks so much your information is very helpful.
Uruguay: Influencia in High schools:
Recently I read this article and was wondering if this is an epidemic and is it in Punta del Este yet? How bad is this?

Uruguay: Punta Del Este - Dentist:
We will be coming in July. I was told that I need an implant and would like to get it done in Punta Del Este, where we will be staying during our visit. Anyone know of a dentist who speaks English in PDE? for implants? Or a dentist in general is fine too?
thank you very much for your all of your help.

Uruguay: Ciudad del la costa area:
Hi Everyone,
Your advice and suggestions have not gone unnoticed from the U.S. Thank you very much.
Have been researching about where to buy a place when we come in July. I had liked the Ciudad de la costa area for it's proximity to schools and MVD. However, I'm bothered that I haven't heard anyone on this forum speak of this area at all. I met with realtors last July and saw many places, reasonable priced in Solymar and El Pinar, close to MVD schools. I have been trying to get statistics and data on crime in the area, but coming up short. Went on Interior Ministry sight to research, but couldn't find anything. Tried to join the Facebook.com.groups.uruguayexpats to find info from others and found t is a closed group, So I am in "pending" mode.
Am simply wondering if I may be looking in a wrong area and ask for your thoughts?
Any suggestions of where else to search for information would be greatly appreciated. I've been on buscandocasa and gallito. But am really interested in data on areas. Schools were my top priority, But now safety tops the list.
Thank you for all of your help and suggestions to a wonderful group of people.
Many thanks, Lori
p.s. VA has a blizzard happening right now. Hasn't stopped snowing in 2 days.

Mexico: Newbie:
Hi Everyone,
I have been following the Mexico forum and reading posts to get acquainted with the group. I am seriously thinking of moving to Mexico because you can easily buy things and get things shipped in Mexico. Other South American countries do not allow this at all.
Uruguay was our first choice, but the ban on buying online or bringing anything into the country is stifling strict.
My son (high school) and I would first visit of course. I am an English teacher in the U.S. Safety and schools is important to us. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about places to investigate.
Uruguay: Advice Please:
Merry Christmas everyone,
I follow your wonderful messages from the U.S. soon to be living in UY. Thank you for all your thoughtful messages and words of advice.
Read the article from Global Post and will say we had different experiences during our visit in UY. However, during our search for places to raise a son and live, many considerations were examined. Namely I did not compare UY with the U.S., but rather compared UY to other South American and Central American countries. I speak some Spanish and teach English so a Spanish speaking country was an important factor.
Anyway, my frame of reference for deciding on UY was not U.S. focused, but keenly aware of global economic politics.
I found good bilingual schools, not only in the publicized Montevideo area, but in the outskirts, near the coasts, where we will live. Students spoke impeccable English in these schools (secondary schools). We found an excellent transportation system, good food and lovely people. We even found nice homes by the coast and realtors who spoke English. Yes, there are many other things that we may miss terribly but we needed to consider the whole country and not just it's pieces. As a dear friend in UY told us "There is no Utopia". Best wishes to all as we continue to follow. We truly look forward to meeting everyone when we settle.
