Scotland: American getting UK citizenship to live and work int the EU?:

Hello! I am an American student studying in Scotland. I have been here for 3 years and have been planning what I want to do after graduation. I have no great desire to return to the states and would prefer to live and work in the EU or the UK. I have been hearing loads of stories of americans struggling for years to find jobs that will sponsor their visa applications. If I stay in the UK for another year after my graduation I can apply for citizenship making it possible for me to live and work in the EU for as long as I want but that would make me stay in the UK for much longer then I would like. Is there a better course of action? Thanks for the help!
