Philippines: Tax business in Philippines:

Where were you planning to go fishing ? When I asked on another expat board about what to bring for fishing in Cebu they told me to bring fish. I would see if you have any competition here and figure out their model. My buddy runs his American biz here and has his taxes done with a Filipino guy who has his own company and works both here and the US. I would think advertising if allowed and paid for would be good to do on larger expat forums. Me, I just use Turbo.

Philippines: On my search to find a Philappino Wife:

I've heard tell of guys lining a bunch of them up on dating sites, getting a hotel room and have them all sit in that hotel lobby as he would interview each separately in his room, LOL. Another guy here in Cebu, a 70+ guy has a wife and 3 girlfriends maybe it's only 2, and they all live together in a compound and again LOL. Also for sure be careful about ladyboys. They are easy to spot because they exagerate their movements, way, way too much. There are an awful lot of them here. The US ain't even 1% of what they got here so be careful out there.

Philippines: Balikbayan box services: US to Philippines:

I ship from Maryland and use Global Cargo. It usually takes around 70 - 80 days now that it goes directly to Cebu rather than getting held up in Manila. I like them a lot.. One of there agents will come by my house to pick up usually a few days after I call them. They even strapped the box last time it was so heavy. Their boxes are very large and heavy duty. Cost about $70 and I give the guy an extra $5.

Philippines: motor vehicle:

I disagree about 2nd hand. You can tell a lot about steering and suspension by driving it. I would try to stick with newer cars and IMO I would go small if you are around a major city, it gets crowded around here. KIA has a 5 yr drivetrain warrantee. I recently picked up a 2014 Picanto with 20k km for 275,000 php or about $5500 US. Seems like a good deal to me.

Philippines: Why are the Philippines so poor?:

FOREIGN OWNERSHIP - you mean to tell me that trickle down doesn't work ? NAHHHHH !!! Really ? Too many people for the current economy, so not enough pie. The economy is in the hands of the relatively few. Businesses are not employee or even customer oriented here. They also are run very inefficiently . Always out of stuff. How can you sell things if you don't have on hand what the customers want. To me the biz community here needs to have a fire lit under their asses, how about allowing foreign competition ? PLDT for example LOL. Viscious circle but INFRASTRUCTURE and EDUCATION, all a product of the economy. Anyway they allow factories here, say manufacturers from other Asian countries Japan, Korea and China ? making the stuff that is used abundantly here and somethings that should be and I mean good stuff not junk. Motorbikes, cars, refrigerators, cellphones, laptops, WASHING MACHINES, construction equipment and tools. I guess this has to be pursued by foreigners otherwise it would have already been done by now. Land ownership rules may prevent this for some reason. Oh well back to the drawing board I guess.

Philippines: US-Philippine Relations:

It should turn out to be a LOVE IN. Trump ?? Putin ?? and DU30 ??. The problem wil be DU30 ?? Shi but Trump and Shi ????. Do I got to draw pictures for you ? ??

Philippines: Spiral Buffet, any regulars on here ?:

Happy Holidays, I'll be visiting Manila on my way to Baguio and thought I'd hit my probably ONCE IN A LIFETIME buffet. I'm trying to determine the differences in offerings at lunch vs dinner vs brunch. I'm mostl after foie, oysters, rack of lamb and Peking duck. Cheese, salami's and Mediterranean hams I figure are available all the time. Thank god for Lipitor, I'll double dose that day. They got a promo going on now for the 1st 3 months of the year that ends tomorrow excluding Sunday brunch. I heard Vikings NIU has foie too at dinner and we got one coming to Cebu SMSeaside sometime next year but as I said, ONCE IN A LIFETIME unless it's most excellent. I have emailed the question to them but of course as typical of Filipino businesses and their lack of customer service I have received no response. Hoping for Sunday dinners to have all that to save a few pesos.

Philippines: NY Times nice article about the Phils:

I'm asking myself by living here am I complicit http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/12/07/world/asia/rodrigo-duterte-philippines-drugs-killings.html?emc=edit_ta_20161207&nlid=70179130&ref=cta

Philippines: Nine low-cost ways to boost the Philippines:

It will happen now, the blockade is over. No triumph for the Obama administration but a go for the Trumpster. Get the idea how the country gets F'd just so the wrong guy doesn't look good. LOL

Philippines: Food Ingredients You Miss Most:

Really good bread flour to make pizza, pita bread, Peking duck, fennel seed, cheap turkeys, carrots, potatoes and celery, tender beef LOL. I'm a foodie type so I recommend Robinson baguettes, smoked Bangus, very inexpensive fishes ( Grouper the other day 350 php per kg cleaned pretty big too), Robinson cinnamon bread, hot Pan de Manila pandesol and I like Arbees breads especially when hot for a snack or if I'm out roaming. I go home every year for about 2 months. While there I plan and gather. I always ship about 4 liters of EVO and spices like smoked paprika and I shorted this time on the fennel seeds so I mixed together some anise Palais that's they sell in Rob's with the fennel I had. It works I guess. I always bring in my suitcase 4 lb of grated Romano Parmesan mix and stick it in my freezer when I get to Cebu plus a 5 lb chunk of mozzarella. I used to bring bacon and hotdogs but I find the bacon over here is ok and I'm getting away from dogs even though I kind of love a good beef Chicago. Anyways I wish they would have a big Mexican infusion here all of a sudden, you know decent sour cream, avocados ALL YR ROUND, limes, cilantro everywhere.
