Italy: Best Place to Live in Italy:

maluza86. You forgot to mention electricity lol.

Italy: Italy Tax Issues:

Also you have to be wanting to retire in Italy and if you are seen to be going back to the US after 182 days then your intention would not be "retiring in Italy"" There is no way around the tax issue except to have a few glasses of wine. Lol.

Italy: More tax info, etc:

Yes. It's driving me mad.

Italy: US Social Security and the Treaty.:

Great explanation. The Australia tax treaty has the same clauses. While I now understand it after researching for over 12 months you have made it very easy for newcomers to get their head around the issue. Well done.

Italy: I am moving to Verona:

Congratulations and I hope it is everything you want it to be. Verona is a really beautiful place.

Italy: Rental Agreement For ER Visa:

Barb the tax treaties do not cover the wealth tax. Ignorance is not an acceptable reason. Any basic search will tell you that you are liable for a wealth tax. If I was the visa processing officer I would look at the time you have spent in Italy to see if you have complied with all previous requirements. If you haven't ( not paying the wealth tax) and you have still have a house in Italy that you don't want to name as a residence but would prefer to be sponsored I would think you are trying to do something not quite right.

Italy: Residence Permit:

Hi codybrandy. I thought I read sometime ago that if you have the receipts and could prove you have lodged an application that was ok. Hope all is well and you have settled in. Regards.

Italy: Move to Italy for 1 year:

Hi taw1492 We had the same idea as you and our situation is a little different as my husband has retired and I am still working and would have had a year off at half pay. So the income was not an issue for us. Here in Australia the Italian Embassy has given us this information. Financial requirements are 31.000 euros for my husband and 7.000 for me as a dependant. A lease for 12 months Private health cover. Now for the nitty gritty. Taxation is a nightmare as Italy has a wealth tax on all assets. Thetax treaty provides for an exception from double taxation on income only. Value of assets is dependent on who you talk to at the time at the embassy. As I have to apply for my own Permesso Di Soggiorno a person at the embassy CAN request that I have an income of 31.000 euros as well. That would t be a problem but how do you know until you apply. If you type in Permesso Di Soggiorno on this forum you will see a very long topic also previous posts on anything tax. There are quite a few people on this forum who have given really good advice in a very pleasant manner so if you can put aside some time to do the research it will be beneficial. We have given up the idea as the tax issues were problematic just to live there for 12 months. There has been a book written by an American named Michelle ? (Sorry can't remember her surname) who did exactly what you want to do and in the same position as you and your husband. Good luck and if you really want to reach your goal go for it.

Italy: Maintaining Florida residency:

The Australian Tax Office advised us they will very nicely advise the Italian Government that we would be in Ital for 12 months. That is so kind of them. They track us through the government health system if we declare that we will not be paying mandatory tax levy for Medicare while we are away, and mandatory private health cover. Also if we use the reciprocal health agreement Australia has with Italy we will have to explain why we are using it. As mentioned previously the sharing of information between countries is now becoming commonplace, and there are many ways it is achieved.

Italy: italy and the EU:

Sergios and Jackster are not moderators. They are two people amongst many on this forum who give wise and valuable advice about the sometimes difficult issues that moving to Italy can bring. If I want political or economic analysis I can watch the news.
