Lithuania: beware of honey traps:

What the actual ****. Are you serious? I spend every weekend in Vilnius, as my wife has a business there, only traveling back to UK for work Monday to Friday. Have been doing this for 8 months now. Prior to that the wife and I travelled to Vilnius anywhere between 3-6 times a year for the previous 4 years and about 10 years ago, before meeting my wife (in London), I travelled around Lithuania on my own. Not once did I make my way back to my accommodation by 9pm. Budget accommodation is fine, just be vigilant. Yes there are some dodgy characters in bars and clubs, but again; just be vigilant. If you go back to your hotel room alone by 9pm you're going to be pretty bored. Go out and see some of the vibrant night life in Vilnius, Kaunus or Klaipeda. My God, honey traps. Are you walking around with a 24 carat gold Rolex on or something?

Lithuania: Learning the language:

Search iTunes for Pimsleur Lithuanian, they only do the one course of 10 units from what I can tell which is great shame, but those 10 units are well worth the circa £26 I paid for them!

Lithuania: Dual Life - London/Vilnius:

I hope to start my dual life between London & Vilnius from 1st Jan 2016, spending half my time in each. My wife is Lithuanian and has lived in the UK for the past 5 years, but is starting a business with her sisters in Vilnius and looking to move back. For ease of tax and pension etc, and as I have not long been in my new job I am looking to split my time. I am awaiting decision on my application for flexible working. Are there many English living in Vilnius? Does anyone else split their time between UK and Vilnius?

Lithuania: Lack of activity on this forum:

I will try and provide some positive input. I have generally always had good experiences. My wife is Lithuanian and so I guess I have a slightly different perspective than someone who goes without any local connections. Though I did visit 10 years before even meeting my wife and had a good time then also. I have noticed a slightly lower than western expectation level of customer service, which I assume is slightly a legacy from the soviet era and probably more to do with the fact that minimum wage there is ridiculously low. Life can be very hard for people in Lithuania on minimum wage. I've never had bad experience myself, but I was once behind an old lady in the queue at the cigarette counter of an Iki supermarket and was appalled at how the young lady behind the till treated the old woman who was struggling to work her chip and pin. Most of my experiences have been of people, mostly my wife's family, friends and neighbors, who are interested in talking with me and drinking with me, and knowing more about me and England. I've been introduced though on a limited scale so far, to hunting and fishing which are big past times of the Lithuanians. I certainly hope to be writing more about that in the future. I have only managed to learn a few words so far, but they always seem to pay big dividends for making the effort!

Lithuania: car insurance:

Did you have any luck finding out about Insurance easterjegg? I will potentially be keeping a car in Vilnius from about December time and it would be good to know. My understanding is that you insure the car, not the person.

My God Rikmo, you poor man. It begs the question, why do you stay?

Lithuania: Moving to Lithuania - Advice:

Hi Ashen Have you had any luck finding information? I am looking to move to Vilnius if my company let me, but would still spend half my time in the UK. I would be interested to hear if you made the move, and how you are finding things!
