Philippines: any advices on driving!:

Sound nice, and very affordable. $10 for a driver or pay $12 a day and get a real pro. Just remember one thing. You provide the car.

Philippines: Never Trust A Filipina:

If you can't afford to send any money, don't send it. Anytime you send money consider it a gift.

Philippines: Confused about Moving to the Philippines:

The last line "endless leisure" made me laugh. It's living folks, just living.

Philippines: Help! bugs are attacking my wooden ceiling:

These bugs are called wood borers or bok-bok in tagalog. You need an exterminator or go to the hardware store and ask the clerk for something that is anti bok-bok. (pronounced book-book). You will need a syringe with a needle to apply the anti bok-bok. Make sure to put the anti bok-bok into the hole because that's where they live.

Philippines: Senior Citizen Discount?:

There seems to be so much fuss and confusion about the senior citizen card and the discounts it brings. I am always with my wife who is 60 years old. She is Filipino and I let her use her card to pay for everything. There is no fuss nor confusion, and I need not worry about using a card.

Philippines: Say Yes to living in the PH:

I was hoping it would only be a matter of time before people finally came out and spoke of the good life in the Philippines. I am happy to hear it.

Philippines: Transactional Love:

I can't help but respond to this post. I don't care where I am I will most always stand up to defend a weaker victim. Whether it be in the states or the Philippines. It is in my nature to help those that are being abused by stronger people. If that guy wants retaliation then so be it. He won't be the first to try his luck taking me out. I am retired law enforcement. I am certainly not the man I was 20 years ago physically, but I am even more determined psychologically. There are too many people who mind there own business when they see injustice.

Philippines: helping an elderly lady move to the Philippines:

I am sorry to disagree with the wise men, but although there is no 911 in the Philippines, there are many very good hospitals and there are good ambulances to get you there as well. They will not leave you on the street to die. There are many alternative ways to discourage this young lady from assisting an elderly person from moving to the Philippines, but using the scare method should not be one of them. The term good samaritan does include Filipinos also.

Philippines: Some tips on visiting needed:

I am sorry to differ with you but there are only about 100,000,000 population in all the Philippines. It is also not true that many people make less than a dollar a day. There is a minimum wage in the Philippines and it's more than 45 pesos a day. You may be talking about children but not adults with a profession or who works for you. Even my maid makes more than $3 a day as a live in. As far as the relatives asking for money, your gf will not be very happy if you run out of money and she has nothing to spend. Be honest with her by explaining that she will not be able to eat if she insists on giving all your money away.

Philippines: New to this:

NOLAlove, Vigan is North of Manila almost to the tip of Luzon. It is very beautiful there with many old Spanish houses preserved during the war. They have very nice beaches and the food is mostly Spanish influenced. The ilocanos are hard working people that hold on to their money very tightly. It will depend on the person whether or not they would try to scam you of your money. It sounds like you are a hard working man and have been around different peoples of the world. It is no different no matter where you are, if you lend money be prepared to not get it back. Money is not everything in life. Just be yourself and be wise. You might like Vigan very much. If you fall in love with your GF, you just might be one of the happiest men alive. Good Luck to you.
