France: relocation specialists:
Hello.
I hired please help.fr in February when I was still in the US.
I can't say enough good things about this company.
They helped me through the very tedious process of acquiring all the documentation I needed for my long sejour visa, including the French translations.
I arrived in June.
The company had my temporary rental waiting for me, accompanied me to a bank to successfully set up an account, handled rental cars, train tickets, a B&B along the way.
They have arranged both health and rental insurance, assisted me with property purchase information and expertise, bought me a new cell phone, arranged delivery of Internet, tv, landline hardware, arranged cell phone provider.
It would take another 100 lines to list everything they have done for me in the past nine months.
I bought a one year package with please help.fr.
They have been unfailingly prompt, professional and amazingly efficient in helping me with every single thing I have needed.
It is without a doubt, the best value for a service for which I have ever contracted.
The owner, John Dislins, has even rescued me when I have been lost
by googling my location and phoning me with directions.
I have given them the ringtone of the theme of Star Wars, because every time they respond, it is as if something magical is about to happen.
As an older women in Sète, I was hesitant to engage a company based in Bordeaux, but help is only a phone call away, and I have often handed the phone to French officials or company representatives, and everything has always worked out perfectly.
I certainly plan to engage them for another year, as I wade through upcoming visa renewal, taxes, and who knows what else lies ahead in this adventure of immigrating to France.
Good luck to you.
France: Expats in Dinan:
Hi there. I moved to France (Sète) just two months ago and was very happy that I found online connections six months before I moved here. There are two English speaking groups here, both of which I joined online. They are a treasure trove of information -- meet-ups, French class locations, government obstacles. I learned how to book a train and exactly what bus routes I would need before I ever arrived. I had also exchanged emails with several in the groups.
They are tremendously supportive, and that's certainly helpful when you're brand new.
Brittany appears to have some good groups.
Try Angloinfo, then Brittany.
Also Connexion for Fr news in English and many helpful postings and links.
Best of luck to you.
France: Moving to France - Utilities, internet, banking, etc:
Hello. I am an American who just moved here in June.
I have had no problem with my Credit Agricole account and regularly transfer money from my US bank (3 days and a $3 fee from my US bank), using an exchange service -- US Forex in my case.
My US retirement pay funds go directly into my US account every month, as that is the best set-up for me.
A week after I arrived, I ordered Free internet, landline, and tv. I had the system boxes delivered to my temporary apartment and set it up myself with a little help from the Free assistance phone people.
I also bought a new French phone and subscribed to Free mobile.
So far, I have had no issues with any of it. Free allows calls to UK and North America at no charge, so I talk with someone in either or both places daily.
My US Amazon prime tv works here fine, and the no fee prime shipping does as well, as long as the vendor ships to France.
I haven't ordered from Amazon.uk yet, just Amazon US and Amazon.fr.
I hope some of this helps.
Netherlands: How to move to Amsterdam?:
http://www.confusedjulia.com/2015/07/an-expats-guide-to-moving-to-amsterdam.html.
There are lots of tips here and on many other
websites. Don't be discouraged.
People told me I couldn't just up and retire in France now in my 60's with very limited
retirement funds, alone and without a job.
I hired a company to help me, and
voila! my one year visa has been granted and
I'm getting on a plane in less than 60 days.
You can do whatever you decide to do.
Join expat Dutch groups on FB, read all the blogs, for a start.
Lots of people will help you.
France: Moving from California to Paris:
Do you have the name of a shipping company you would recommend? I am moving from Houston to Sète this year.
