Ecuador Welcome Forum: New FBAR deadline:

Good afternoon, I just went online to file our FBAR report and saw that the deadline has changed. Everything I read online said that it was due on June 30, but I figured I would file it when we filed our taxes so I wouldn't forget. Glad I did because their website listed a new deadline! April 15 - same as the IRS, but this year is April 18, due to April 15 being on a Saturday and the Washington D.C. Emancipation Day holiday being observed on April 17. Thought I would let everyone know in case anyone else still thought it was June 30th. Happy Tax Season :-/ P.S. Does anyone have any experience on taxes in Ecuador? Will we need to file based on interest income only? I have seen info on this in the past, but thought someone may have more recent advice. Thank you!

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Cajas Tour:

We took a wonderful hiking tour in the Cajas today. It included breakfast & lunch for $40 per person at the Rancho Hermanos Prado. They will choose a hiking route to match your level. We even moved our date from Wed to Fri to avoid bad weather. Our guests were blown away and said this was their favorite part of their Ecuador trip. The website is http://rancho-hnos-prado.com/ and we cannot wait to bring our next visitors to experience the Cajas!

Ecuador: So long and thanks for all the fish:

I have to reply in defense of our moderators. I found so much information about moving to Cuenca on this forum that I have yet to be surprised by the situation actually living here. Many people that wind up moving back to "the continent" do so because they feel that the information given to them was "sugar coated." Some people do like to joke around but no one has ever said anything here that made me feel attacked. And some of the questions posted could be answered by a few minutes searching on google. If you can't laugh at yourself or handle strangers treating you without kid gloves, I would be surprised if you could handle a move to a continent with a whole new culture and language. So many of us are just grateful at how open the expats on this forum are about very personal matters. Thank you again to everyone on here, especially kmoriarty, windshadow, sinego, ocean hideaway, cccmedia. You guys have helped and made us laugh!

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Indian spices in Cuenca?:

Hi there! Does anyone know of a place in Cuenca where you can purchase Indian spices? If not, how about a place to purchase coriander seeds? (I would grow my own cilantro and let it go to seed but we're in an apartment for now.) Thank you for your help!

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Cold Canadian looking for beach rental:

I have to beg to differ regarding beaches on the Pacific. I haven't been to the coast of Ecuador yet (we live in the Sierra), but we found several beautiful beaches on the Pacific side of Costa Rica. Playa Hermosa near Dominical and the beach in the Manuel Antonio park were breathtaking! If any of the beaches in Ecuador are like those, it would be paradise.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Bus schedule for Holiday?:

We have only been in Cuenca for a few months. Would any of you be able to tell me how the bus schedule changes during the holiday weekend? Will there be any taxis running on Sunday? Thank you so much for any information!

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Residency Paperwork:

David, our abogada told us the middle name must be spelled out on the passports but that it was okay if some of the other documents had just the middle initial. Our backgrounds checks showed just the middle initial.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: English speaking dermatologist:

Can anyone recommend an english speaking dermatologist? I would be a cash patient, so it doesn't matter if they are an IESS doctor or not. I tried emailing 2 of the doctors at Monte Sinai, but have not received a response. Can you walk in to request an appointment? Thanks for any help!

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Hot Water / Calefon:

I realize that hot showers are a luxury here in Ecuador. But I also see many, many signs for "Calefon Reparaciones." Do any of the on-demand water heaters work well enough to have a true, hot shower? Not a 20 minute shower, just 5 minutes would be great. Thank you :-) Cangrejo de Arbol

Ecuador Welcome Forum: gringovisas.com:

I don't have experience with Maite, but I did check one of her references and that customer was happy with her. It is possible to get your visa before you come to Ecuador - my husband did. It takes a couple trips to the Ecuadorian consulate that is over your area and a couple FedEx envelopes to EC, those cost us $83 each time. We went to the consulate in Atlanta, GA - they were very nice. (Our abogada said that some consulates are better than others.)
