Malaysia: Penang long term stay:

My wife and I are currently I Malaysia looking at several locations we can try for a few months later this year with th hope of finding a long term lease where we can enjoy our retirement. We are primarily looking at JB and Penang but admit there are other locations we could consider. Please contact us if you have a property for us to consider

Malaysia: What is Best visa for spending 6 months per year in Penang:

I am an American Citizen and my wife is a Singapore Citizen with an American PR (Green Card). Having recently retired and having spent considerable time in South East Asia over the years we would like to spend four to six months each year in Penang. Can anybody please advise the best visa for us, and is there a difference in the visa approach between my wife and myself?

Malaysia: Mail Forwarding?:

I noticed several different services for providing mail collection, management and forwarding on the Resources part of the Forum. I would appreciate feedback from multiple people about the pros and cons of using these services in the USA as a street address for all mail and any logistical issues of accessing the information when living in Malaysia, or other areas of SE Asia such as Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Many thanks for your help and input.

Panama: Moving furnishings and auto:

How practical is it to move furnishings to Panama....after determining where to get a 2 bedroom house or condo on lease and are there restrictions on bringing a car into the country?

Thailand: Thai Visa Requirements:

I recently retired at the end of September 2015. My wife (Singapore Citizen) and I are looking to sell our home in the mid-west USA and relocate in the next year to Thailand having been there many times over the last 30 years. I have read up on retirement visas and clearly remain confused as to the financial requirements to qualify both myself and my wife. Can anybody clarify the following: 1) Do my wife and I require two different types of visas since I am American and she is Singaporean. 2) Do we need to qualify financially separately for income and bank account balances? 3) Is there an income and bank balance requirement that jointly covers us both? If so, do you know how much these amounts are? Most likely we will be looking at the Chiang Mai area. Any thoughts that you can contribute to this clarification are greatly appreciated.

Thailand: Cost of living Chiang Mai:

Dear Caughtinthe act: I have been following this forum passively for about 6 months as I have recently retired and my wife (Singaporean with USA PR) and I are considering moving from the USA to either Malaysia, Thailand or Vietnam. Over the years we have visited all of the countries many times. I read your comment about qualifying for a retirement visa in Thailand. I remain coinfused. Can you tell me do my wife an I both have to our separate income qualifications of $1900 a month......and what does this mean in terms of the individual or joint bank balance we must carry to show we have sufficient funds to qualify. By the way, Chiang Mai is one of our priority locations and we plan on visiting for several months sometime soon when our home sells in the USA.

Thailand: looking to move to Thailand:

May I have your opinion on what the impact of the economic instability and coup is having on the cost of apartment and home rentals in the major locations such as Bangkok, chiang mai, Hua Hin, other?

Thailand: Traveling to Thailand:

Thanks. Our plan as we approach our first post retirement trip to Thailand is to spend about 90 days moving around in-country. We have been to Bangkok many times and also ChaAm and Hua Hin as well as Phuket. However, this visit will be used to focus on learning more about the country and where we might want to settle in for a time. Certainly ChiangMai is high on the list but there is a lot to see in Thailand and we want to take our time. There is also a possibility we might make a swing trip to Vietnam as we have been there numerous times...but right now the priority is Thailand. What is the best way to maintain visa status for a 90 day period in Thailand?

Thailand: Local Tours in Thailand:

When my wife and I visited Vietnam several years ago we truly enjoyed taking inexpensive bus tours throughout the country and staying at local hotels and eating in local restaurants. We are now considering moving to Thailand (we have been there many times) and will probably visit for several months so we can visit various areas and see more of the country than we did in the past. My question is to understand if similar tours to what I described in Vietnam are available in Thailand. It seems all I can find on the internet are "up class" tour trips which does not give us the flexibility or the ability to see a truly local flavor of the country and the people. Please advise if you know of any services like this and what cities they are available in....ie Bangkok, Chiang Mai, etc.

Global Expat Forum: Local Tours in Thailand:

When we were in vietnam several years ago we enjoyed using local inexpensive tours by bus to see and visit different areas of the country. Do these types of tours exist in Thailand?
