Portugal: Americans to Portugal:

My wife and I are young, 34 and 29. We are United States citizens, and have lived abroad. We have done fairly well for ourselves so far. We are not broke, but we are not retiring either. Portugal and the Azores are high on our list of next spots to live. Can you guys and gals just give us some ideas of places to start to find information on moving, living, and working as US citizens. Any good websites to start looking around? Whats possible? Whats not possible? What is the cost of living? Can we work? Is the visa process difficult? Making a move to the EU is proving much different than our stays in South America.

Ecuador: Bringing Pets:

Ecuador allows 2 pets per person. Its not a question of how many the airline will let you bring. I also think its funny how concerned people are with traveling with their dog. First, not all dogs are the same. We have to understand that. But every dog that I have chosen to own, does not care a thing about traveling from state to state or country to country. The 2 shepherds I have now came from Germany to Texas. Happy as could be. Almost acted bored and uninterested in the move. I drive with them for hours at a time in a crate in the back of my truck all the time across west Texas. They can surely go more than 5 hours without going #2 in a kennel. My dogs often will choose to go from dinner time until mid morning the next day without wanting to go outside. Even with me calling them and trying to make them go. I certainly do not wait that long myself, but I drink a lot more liquids than they do. In my opinion, all the traveling concern is overblown. Pets travel all around the world all the time. They are shuttled all over North America and Europe by the millions. They probably are not thrilled to do the long trips, but its no big deal. Yes Ecuador has different bacteria than they might be used to, but it also has different bacteria for you too. Fido and you both could get an upset stomach for eating a new piece of fruit. How do elderly humans move to Ecuador to "relax" and live a "less stressful" life, but your dog can't? Of course Ecuador has places that have fresh air, places for exercise, and quality foods can be found. Im just not buying it. I don't think an average size dog without psychological issues would have much issue. Just my opinion. Load your pup under the plane and bring him.

Ecuador: Texas to Quito direct flight:

We have to fly through Miami from Dallas to Quito or Guayaquil. Nothing direct. Thats all I know.

Ecuador: Warmer climate:

Apparently safety is a hot topic here. Ive seen the argument here twice in a week. The last thread was deleted it go so heated. My opinion is that Ecuador is not as safe as the US or other western countries. There is no doubt that is more dangerous. Some cities are less safe than others but all of them are less safe than the vast majority of US cities. It is a fantastic country with numerous positives, but we shouldn't kid ourselves that the safety is the same. Its not even close. You must watch yourself much more closely than I do here in Dallas where I am currently.

Ecuador: Exploratory Trip:

rosydi55, My wife and I are also in DFW moving to Ecuador. That is cool. Currently our plan is to move to Cuenca or most likely Loja. We have been all over and we like the southern mountains the best. The coast is just so crazy hot for us. Lola is still tropical but the weather is more pleasant. What is nice about Ecuador is that a lot of these cities are only a 30 min flight away from the beach and extremely cheap. On the last trip we flew from Cuenca to Guayaquil for I believe $23 each.

Ecuador: Budget Questions Again?:

Hello, Who here is under 40 years old and living in Ecuador? Interested to know how you are getting along? And your type of lifestyle compared to income or savings? Where in the country are you located? Single or a family? Will my wife and I be doing ok on a couple grand a month? We are young and probably not living the same as retired pensioners on fixed budgets. Just would like to continue to check on how others are getting by.

Ecuador: Bringing pets to Ecuador:

Who has brought dogs and cats with them to Ecuador? Is the process difficult? Was there a quarantine period? Is there a limit of how many dogs and cats you can bring into the country, or is it just an airline rule per flight?

Ecuador: Cuenca Budget:

Hello, My wife have made multiple trips to Cuenca and we plan to move there shortly. Can we get some first hand information about the actual cost of living in Cuenca. Who is living there? What age group are you in? What type of housing do you have? What is you lifestyle like? And how much money do you really spend and need to live? Thanks, Landon
