Panama: National Migration System offers new online service:

I agree, it doesn't take a person over 6 months to know if they are staying or not, and if that is the case before they buy a home then that is fine, but they still should get the visa. The problem is as I see it, it isn't they need more time to make up their minds to stay or go, but that they can't apply for the visa for some reason, either they have a record, are being hunted by police, or maybe they don't have the funds to apply. So they have used a loop hole in the law to play tourist when they are not a tourist. A tourist to me is a person who comes to a country for a week maybe two, to see the sites and then goes home, not live here 6 months jump to C.R. for a few days and jumps back for another 6 months. get legal or get gone.

Panama: Corporation:

SO let me get this straight, you want to apply for a visa, and the only way you can is to have a corp. to do so, but you don't want to pay the fee to do so.. so in other words this visa is the only one you can apply for, because for one reason you don't make enough money or can't prove you have enough to get the other visa, so panama allows people like you to do it this way, but yet you don't like it because you are to cheap to pay 400 or 500 to do it one time to get the visa and then kill it. so you can live here for a life time? really? honey listen if 500.00 is bugging you to have to pay to be allowed to live here, trust me that is just the tip of what you will end up paying to live here. pay the dang money and get on with it or stay where you are. I wish panama would shut the doors on people who can't live here without a low ball visa. be able to afford to live here or stay home. another expat that has to make a living to be able to live here WE DON'T NEED.

Panama: Anyone heard about this accident?:

I have not seen anything about it, but this happens a lot. I am sure they declared the money first off, no one wants to risk losing 40k by not. 2nd what happens is when they write that amount down, someone at the airport alerts a local standing around to which party has the money. then they attack at a traffic stop. sounds like the driver saw what was coming and tried to out run them. a driver did the same thing last year while on the phone to the police. this time it sounds like the driver crashed. whoever at the airport who saw the forms needs to be pulled in and spoken with about what part they played in this crime. only a few people see it. these tourist had that money on their person. so start with the person or persons who looked at it.

Panama: Gated Comunities:

GATED, doesn't mean any safer then any other place in the country. I have pulled up and said I am here to see mr dirty bottom and they wave me right in. also remember many crimes are done by the people you allow in your home, a cleaner, yard man ect. they see and look and listen to all. know what you have, where you put it, where you will be ect.

Panama: Advice on San Carlos:

Mexico has a ton of problems, drug lords plus many low life workers all trying to be a drug lord thinking they are untouchable, they can take or do anything or anybody they wish. mostly young punks with guns. Then you have to think about how they feel towards americans. since we have started to deport them, and that is just going to get worse as time goes by. police are mostly bought and paid for, and you to them are just another dollar bill to be taken, you are also open to be raped, because the men there have that macho mind set. most people think well about mexico because they stay in the resort towns, but even those have had some killings lately. You will be a target because you are the rich american lady. even tho you are not rich, but to them you are. Puerto Rico I have spent time there as well, it was years ago and I know things change, but what I took away from it was, rude people, all entitled because the u.s. gives them handouts, so they expect you to do the same, when you refuse then they will go off on you calling you everything they can think of. P.R. is broke at this time and in debt, major debt, and they are looking again for the u.s. to bail them out. The wind was a problem for me as well, it seemed to never stop. I also was bored out of my mind, I drove around the whole island and then cut across it on the toll road one night just to have something to do. plus side your passport is good, money is same, and if you live there full time no taxes. you ask how safe a woman alone might feel; how tolerant people are to Pitbulls; any tips/tricks on renting (dealing w/real estate agents/landlords) how safe a woman feels depends on the woman. Most all the women I have met here, have no problems at all with men. most locals are respectful towards women. pitbulls, no one here really cares. rent tips? the best I could tell you is to find a smaller home in the back yard of a richer local family. many have a main house and then they built a 2nd smaller house in the back yard. Many of these people don't even live in the main house, and are there on the weekends. this is a plus for you, first you have a yard person who takes care of everything, the place will be safer, many have pools, and after a little time, the family will more or less look at you as family and help you with any problems you might find. and of course those hookups are a bonus to you. I would look towards corondo more then san carlos tho. many expats there and tons of rich homes. closer to stores, shops ect. you asked about a used car or scooter, if you lived there, no need for either one, taxis are everywhere. how reliable is the internet connection at home; will I be lonely (lol); I use cable onda and I have really been happy with their service. will you be lonely? honey, even the fat girl has friends at closing time.

Panama: Bus crash in Anton:

I don't know yet the reason for this bus crash, but it seems like every few years we have one like this. last year a guy I know was so proud to show me his new school bus, and within two months he was speeding and hit a patch of water, lost control and killed some of the kids he was trusted to get to school and back. just today I saw a bus from el valle doing at least 100km down the hill. a few years ago another large bus caught fire and kill most of the people on board. many many more to list. no one is over seeing these buses nor the drivers, the drivers are told to get there and back with as many people as you can as fast as you can to make more money. The Owners of some of these buses do not keep them up in a safe running condition. many have bad brakes, bad tires, steering problems and they just keep running them, even a nascar driver at speeds wrecks and it's just a matter of time. I have seen drivers drunk, watching tv, and texting while driving. This will happen over and over, more deaths, until things change. I almost saw another school bus crash today when the driver was about to pull back onto the highway and a semi dump truck, driving way to fast almost hit him, that little school bus was full of kids and that truck driver had no place to go. we need more over sight. if the car, truck, bus is unsafe tow it. I have seen bald tires, tires and rims so bent they look like they would fall off, and countless cars without tail or brake lights. police need to do more and stop looking the other way. Last week we had three German tourist leave our place in their rented car heading back to panama city after a wonderful holiday here, the driver had had his wallet stolen in bocas, and was going to get a replacement once home, they were stopped in a road block that had a wrecker standing by, and even tho the other two guys had a valid DLC. and could have drove, the cops put their rental car on the tow truck and demanded 250.00. they paid it, the tow driver drove it back off the truck and the cops allowed the other one to drive home. shame panama shame.

Panama: LGBT friendly:

Christine LGBT group is always welcome at the windmill hostel in el valle de anton. we have many guest that come and stay, some say that there is a little out cry on it, mainly from men towards gay men, but no more then anywhere else in the world. I have seen all our guest mix and mingle around the pool or outside bbq area and not had any problems with any group from either side. I am a expat and to me I don't care, you love who you love. Most expats here that I have met just do their own thing and I don't see many of them that would go out of their way to be ugly towards you two. Same as in the states, you will find true friends to hang out with and enjoy things with and then you will have some that will judge you, and of course you just don't deal with those.

Panama: Are pet dogs allowed on beaches in Panama?:

I have never been on a beach where I didn't see a pack of dogs.
