Panama: Gun collecting:

No, I'm not a gun slinger! My hobby since retirement has been gun-smithing. Specifically, I buy old surplus weapons from the WWII to Cold War relics, refurbish them for sale on the internet and also engrave them to make them one of a kind collectables. My son and I would miss target shooting but I love my hobby. I could have the another son strip them down to the frame and send the parts to me so the weapon would be inoperable. I have no desire to carry a gun and I could live without target shooting as I said, but I would miss the art! Would this be acceptable to Panamanian Law?

Panama: Handicap friendly:

I'm planning a 3 month tour of Western Panama and I have some travel concerns. I know there is a new international airport in the west but I'm wondering if the planes that fly to it are large enough to be accommodating to wheel chairs. Should I fly first to an American city that offers direct flights or if I fly from Panama City, are the flights in planes big enough to accommodate us? If I find it necessary to drive from Panama City to... say Boquete or Davie (I tried that name with a "y" and it was rejected as an unacceptable word), is it possible to drop off the rental car at my final destination, or must I rent a car round trip? I expect to get around by taxi rather than deal with busses that probably can't accommodate us, or can they? I have also heard that low cost car rentals can be had from local used car dealers, or at least buying with a guaranteed buy back. The latter sounds like asking for trouble but I'm not opposed to renting an older vehicle and we carry our own hand controls for my son. Any input would be appreciated! P.S. I've been following the "Trump won, I'm outta here" post in the forum! I've got to hand it to you expats... you are remarkably open minded and helpful! In fact, I loved your responses so much, I've decided to cross Costa Rica and Ecuador off my list and concentrate on Panama! As of now I see 207 responses and almost all were open minded and helpful. I can definitely live with that! I've been monitoring expat forums for months now to try to get a lay of the land, so to speak. You guys are the best I've read!

Panama: lease agreements:

Just read a post that worries me about needing a lawyer for leasing. I'm planning a 3 month visit to survey communities. I don't expect to stay in any one place for more than a month. I've seen many places for rent on a monthly basis but now I'm worried. Do I need legal assistance for short term rentals?

Panama: Need your help everybody !:

I hope everything works out to plan. I just wanted you to be sure you have checked out every possible issue about citizenship! I know a few couples who brought many problems on themselves and their children over citizenship. I live in the US. One couple I know were from Liberia. The wife wanted to be with her family for her first birth. Years later they became American citizens but their son was stuck with a Liberian Citizenship. As a teen, he got into some trouble and when he tried to become an American citizen, his record precluded that. He is now struggling as an illegal alien, and if caught, he will be sent back to a country he has never known! Another friend was here in college when the Shaw of Iran was overthrown. Many years later, he wanted his parents to see his family and when the opportunity opened in the 90's, he obtained a "Family Visa" and went home for the first time in 23 years. When he arrived, his American Passport was taken from him. Iranian law states you can never give up your Iranian Citizenship. Therefore, if you were born there and had an American Passport, you were a spy! It took him 3 months and help from the French Embassy to smuggle his family back to America and for him, he will be shot if he ever returns again! So many unforeseen problems can alter your life and happiness. Please research well and good luck!

Panama: Skin/Bug Bites:

I lived in Charleston, SC for a decade and the no see'ums were like a plague. There is only one thing that repelled them and that was a scented oil from Avon called "Skin-So-Soft"! For what ever the reason, this was the only thing that worked. It definitely had a strong feminine scent, but life for me would have been impossible without it!

Panama: Religious and Political hatred:

I know the forum is for people who already reside in Panama. I read this forum to get an idea of how expats themselves get along. There have been some very angry posts from time to time and I'm beginning to wonder if Panama or any expat community is what I want. Please tell me expats have to deal with this hatred all the time? I want to get away from condescending idiots who expect everyone to share their own opinion. I am a Christian but I will not be a member of any church! I'm tire of people pointing to sinners and threatening them with the wrath of God! I'm tired of the political hatred, the endless arguing and the ever present fear Americans have that their world is ready to fall explode! It's all so stupid. Before I retired I at least was able to keep my mind on the job or raising my kids and now, I seem to be constantly bombarded with vitriol! Am I going to see the same thing in expat communities? People who complain, accuse or expect everyone to think like them? Is everyone one there escaping political and religious retribution? Most of you sound like great people and I hope you are. So here it is. I told you my religious beliefs, I'm a conservative, Viet Nam vet., I will be bringing my 30 yr old son who is in a wheel chair. I make enough to live there and still maintain a home in the states until I feel I've made the right choice. I try my darnedest to accept people as they are and if I can't, well... I just walk away with no hard feelings. I couldn't care less if I ever have another political discussion or a religious one for that matter! So! What's my chances of fitting in???

Panama: Furniture:

I live in North Carolina, US! When I moved here 12 yrs ago, I found that buying antiques rather than new furniture looked more appealing and lasted longer than buying new. Then there's always the fact that they will increase in value rather than depreciate. Are there used furniture/antique stores there?

Panama: Trump Won - I'm outta here!:

Oh no! I'm moving to Panama because half of my fellow citizens voted for Hillary! Well 40% of the live ones anyway! What to do, what to do! Tell you what, if you keep your political observations to yourself... so will I. Happy V-day from a Viet Nam Vet to you!

Panama: Feed Me!:

Need input! Boquet would suit me well as the size community as well as from the cool weather. My son loves the beach! Claims of all the places we've occupied, hot and steamy seems to make him happy! Ok, so the road between David and Boquet is the target area! Or is it? I've heard so many good things from the people about the Western half of Panama. What about the East? There're mountains and lakes, deserts and beaches. There are jungles and villiages and again, a choice of seas you wish to commune with! Let's hear some input from the East Ithsmus!!

Panama: Long Term Rental:

Have you tried Craig's list for Panama - apts, houses for rent? Amazing volume of residences to let under $1,000! Many homes under $750 in fact. Although many recommend going to a hotel and look for area "For Rent" signs for a much lower cost!
