Mexico: Living in Ensenda, Baja:
Does anyone have any experience living in the Ensenada or Rosarito, Baja area?
Typical questions:
Crime?
Cost of Living?
Livability?
Expat Community friendliness ?
Compared to Ajijic?
Weather?
We are not newbies to Mexico but the proximity to Tijuana is concerning in the crime area.
Because it is so close to California you wonder if it is just a weekend hangout for Californian's?
Any input would be appreciated.
Mexico: Ajijic Car/No Car:
To visit you don't need a car.
If you live there, long term you will need a car.
Note that what ever your driving with get bumped, scratches and dents. The side streets are very very rough and hard on a car.
You will need a high clarence for the underside of your car or SUV.
SUV might work better.
Mexico: Rental websites:
Just returned from Ajijic. There is a good company called Hernandez Rental Group. They are low profile but seem to have access to a number of available rental properties. Meet people, ask the local expats.
Lake Chapala Society and the American Legion home have a place bulletin board that post rentals by owner. It is there high season now until March. If you can wait until March 2016 your selection will be better.
Good luck.
Mexico: Ensenada?:
Good question because we will be in the area in February to make a decision about moving there in late April 2016.
It seems like a good option. There is a lot to do in the area and it is close enough to US to keep your health care options open. Climate can't be much better.
The big question mark is the water supply? Will they get enough rain this season to to supplement their requirements? I would guess that it is going to take a number of rainy season's back to back to put water supply in the black again.
We will check Ensenda out in February. I feel very positive about the area from what I hear.
Anyone have in input, please do?
I need all the help that I can get with our decision.
Good luck.
My email is jrk944@gmail if you care to communicate.
Mexico: Ensenada Long Term Rental Market:
We are thinking of moving to Ensenada or that general area.
1) We are wondering what the furnished and unfurnished market is like for 2-3 BR places close or on the beach?
2)Is there a best time of the year to be shopping for a place?
3) Are the rental market selections tight?
4) Should we consider another town in the area because of water situation?
We will appreciate anyone's personal experience on the above questions.
Sincerely,
jrk944

Mexico: Android in Mexico:
I just returned from 18 days in Ajijic and I use an Android Smartphone on the ATT network. Received all my emails but I was tied into a Wify system. Did receive calls on my ATT network and it worked fine. Also; borrowed a local prepaid phone and bought prepaid minutes simcard for local calls.
Also; received and placed calls to the US using Facebook Messager . it worked fine. Also used What's Up network which for me didn't work as well as FB Messager.
Didn't make any changes to my settings but didn't use my ATT network for calls.
Mexico: US Expat Banking While Living In Mexico:
I am in Ajijic, Mexico, shopping for a place to live. Another Expat from Canada here just mentioned that a number of US Expats have had their SS checks and funds on deposit in a US bank blocked for transfer. In other words, as understand the situation is if your living in Mexico and depending on withdrawing funds from a US bank by using a debit card, your withdrawals may/ could be blocked?
Anyone have any experience with this situation?
Mexico: Arriving near midnight Guadalajara - best options to get to Lake Chapala?:
Just booked our flights into Guadalajara from Atlanta through Dallas and we arrive @ about 1:30 PM witth time to reach Lake Chapala or Ajijic before dsrk. From what I have heard you need to only travel in daylight hours. Suggest you change your arrival time to no later than mid-afternoon. Our hotel in Ajijic is arranging for a taxi driver to meet us at the airport upon our arrival.
Don't travel after dark. We have even had someone attempt to highjack our car in France after dark, so it not just Mexico.
Good luck.
