Jamaica: considering move to jamaica from us:
Unless you are a Jcan National, you'll have a hard time finding a job. You'll need work permits and that will be very hard to get unless you're working with a company that's already here and is relocating you to the island.
Do as the above poster suggested...take a long vacation and see how you like it. You can find plenty of short term rentals...homes, villas and/or apts...so you can get the idea what living in JA is like.
If you have enough cash to live on, then come on down. If you 'need' to work...you 'need' to do some more research
Jamaica: I have a job offer in Kingston:
As already said, if that salary is in USD you'll be fine financially.
If it's JMD you should rethink the offer.
Jamaica: Missing Endangered adult:
You're going to get a lot more information by boarding a plane and talking to local LEOs and posting posters or flyers.
It's been three years...he could be anywhere on the island. Without a name or description or last known location, no one here can help you.
Most people in JA do not use their real name...they all have an aliases and if he's hooked up with locals you might never find him.
Good luck with your search, I'm sure his family is very upset
Jamaica: Question about one way trip:
If you're a resident of JA why would they require you to have a round trip ticket? Generally, tourists and other non residents could be required to show not only a return ticket, but proof of address and proof of money for the trip.
I've seen this happen many times in the MoBay airport.
Jamaica: New Job in Jamaica:
Where on the island will you be settling? There are some really nice places all over the island, but without knowing where you'll be, it's hard to give advice.
I'm on the north coast and there are plenty of nice areas here.
Jamaica: GETTING A JOB IN JA that pays in cdn or us funds:
No business owner that I know, that needs to import goods, uses FedEx or UPS...that would be insane. You get yourself a good Customs Broker and let him deal with the shipping. Very rarely do I use FedEx to bring anything in...and if I do, the customer pays for it...up front..BEFORE it send for it.
Sometimes it's easier and cheaper to fly to the states and back ($99 to Miami) in a day than it is to ship or use a broker.
When I order pallets of stuff then I use the broker and their fees are cheap and I don't care what they charge because the customer is paying for it anyway.
Money can be made here if you're a smart business person.
Jamaica: Banking:
It can be quite difficult to open an account in JA if you have no JA ties.
Check out the First Global website and the NCB website..they might be able to answer your questions.
If you're from Canada and have a Scotia or Victoria Mutual account it might be easier.

I found this on the NCB website.
Good luck
Jamaica: Potential move to Jamaica:
They will have income. They would be moving on a job transfer.
One of the hard parts about moving/living in JA is choosing the right area. We are on the North Coast and love it...I can sit on my balcony and watch the ships roll by.
You can't come on a 'long vacation' and get an idea of 'living' here. It's totally different. Living in a hotel or resort is NOT the same as renting or owning your own home. There are plenty of nice places for expats to live across this island and if you can afford it on the salary they are offering...go for it. (we don't find JA to be expensive as a whole, but some do.)
The downside to living in JA is this: the drivers are friggin crazy, the crime is insane (but we're going on 30 yrs without an issue), no one does anything with a matter of urgency (but you do get use to that), you need 2 passport photos signed by a JP to do anything, and finding quality 'goods' is hard..we have to import a lot of things (car parts, pet food, household items, etc) too much Chinese crap invading the island. Medical care can be issue, but Miami is 90 mins away and it's $99 a flight.
Jamaica: Funerals in jamaica:
Gardis,
2k USD for a funeral is cheap! The only thing that cheap in the US is cremation. The average US funeral runs closer to 10k so if you can get away with spending 2k for a nice spread in JA...go for it.
Funerals in JA are HUGE...the majority of the money is spent one upping the funeral before.. Air brushed caskets, funeral bands playing in the precession to the burial, hired wailers, (yes they hire people to 'weep and cry' at funerals, the TV spots, the radio spots, the ads in the paper..etc.
Let's not even touch on the food....food is a huge part of the funeral.
So...if you can pull that off on 2k USD you're getting a great deal!!!
