Costa Rica: answering direct questions to me:
Hello GBP
If that person would be blocked from this forum more people would use it!
What a mean human being!
Costa Rica: eople don't come here to be bullied!:
Kohl,
I want to thank you for all your help! I appreciated all the information that you and a few others gave me about Costa Rica!
Since my husband and I just applied for residence and we also opened our first bank account there, I tried to give that information away to those who could benefit from it!
I never thought that by sharing what my Tica neighbor who lives in Los Angeles told me wen she mentioned that if I was an American they would require more documents, would make me a target!
It's like if they are calling ignorant not just to me but to my neighbor as well since she was the one who used the word "American"!
It's amazing that this person has asked people before not to get away from the subject the are talking about and now she (or he) felt the need to explain what an American is!
Doesn't my Tica neighbr from San Jose who owns a condo in Guanacaste next to me and who lives in Los angeles and who has 2 nationalities know the difference between a person from the United States and someone from America Latina?
Then I thought it was curious that someone also mentioned that not everybody who comes here has the same level of English education, etc,,,etc....
Like if me and my neighbor are ignorant!
I probably have traveled to more countries around the world than most of these people and I have never heard anyone from Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Brazil, Mexico,
Argentina, etc....claiming to be an American!
If we would call them an American it would be offensive to them because they are very proud of their nationalities!
We interact a lot with locals especially in the jacuzzi and swimming pool (they too rent) and when we ask them where they are from some say: I was born in the States but now I live here.Others say:we are Nicaraguans but we work here!
No one has ever answered: I am an American!
Kohl, even though this is not about documents anymore, I want to let you know that Canadians are also required to register with the Embassy in San Jose.
Someone mentioned here that it was just for the Americans (again, the Americans) but we were told by our lawyer that we need to register as well.
However it's easy because it can be done online!
By the way Khol, I don't plan to write anything else in this blog but |I appreciate you!
Like the old proverb says: the dogs bark but the caravan moves on!
The difference is that I won't be here to listen to their barks!
Costa Rica: Opening the bank account:
Today my husband was able to open a bank account in Costa Rica.
I had prepared so many documents based on what I had read in this blog and others!
All the bank wanted was:
The Immigration document
The letter from our Canadian bank
A letter from our lawyer in Costa Rica
They allow for us to transfer monthly as much as my husband's pensions!
However all we want is to transfer enough money to pay our condo's bills!
I'm very happy that all went so well!
My Tico neighbor who lives in LA just emailed me and she says that if I was an American that they would demand much more (information).
I don't know if this is true!
Costa Rica: My neighbor smokes like a chimney!:
Kohl,
I'm so disappointed!
There is a lady living in the same complex there that is a heavy smoker.
She even smokes in the pool!
She was living a few condos away from me but now she has moved next door.
My husband just emailed me saying that she is smoking like crazy!
My lungs are very sensitive to smoking and some heavy smells.
Last year I had to make several trips to the Hospital for X-rays and a scan!
However this is not just about me!
She has caused some renters to leave the complex because either they had dogs or they had more people in their condo than they were supposed to.
I know sometimes here in this forum people talk in a negative way about living in a gated community but we live in a lovely complex with the biggest swimming pool in Guanacaste and with security 24 hours a day.
The beach is just around the corner and the people there are really nice!
Most owners are from Canada, USA,
and Italy.
There are always tourists coming and going and it's nice to be able to
get to know people from all over the world.
Especially my husband who speaks
English, Spanish,Portuguese,Italian and French!
The only negative thing is having a living chimney around!
I told the administration that they need to do something about it: either give her a letter or build a divider between my terrace and hers which is ridiculous since there are signs there forbidding smoking everywhere.
She doesn't even own property there!
When she was the president of the association she cause many people to be expelled!-However there she is breaking the law!
My Tico neighbor tells me that in Costa Rica there are strict laws about smoking!
I'm going to do a research about it!
I like to be friendly to everyone but this is about my health!
Costa Rica: What about Permanent Residency?:
It's my understanding that after 3 years of Temporary Residency we can apply for Permanent Residency.
Do we need to go through all these expenses again with lawyer, documents, notarization, authentication, translation and other fees?
Thanks
Costa Rica: Stamping the copy of the Passport:
Thank you so much!
My husband is going there for 2 weeks
mainly to take some stuff for our condo and then next month we will go for about 3 months.
He will also try to open a bank account which I know is not easy but we are taking all the required documents and even a copy of the police reports.LOL!-It's true!
We are going to our bank now to get the letter and we also made a copy of the bank statements for the last 3 months and have a copy of some of our investments.
Our manager wasn't paying the condo fees on time even though he had our money from the rentals in his bank account.
So we had to fire him and our realtor from Remax is the one paying our utilities for now.
It's very expensive to send the condo fees through a wire transference because of the bank expenses here and in Costa Rica.
I prepared a folder in such a professional way that even if he won't be able to open the account (I'm praying he will) the manager must be impressed with the work I did!-LOL!
He is taking a copy of the documents (pensions ) that we sent to San Jose through the lawyer.
I always appreciate your help!
Costa Rica: Canada treaties:
This link shows the countries that have a treaty with Canada and the ones that are negotiating right now.
Unfortunately, Costa Rica is not one of them!
That's why the Canadian Government retains 25% of our pensions, RRSP's, etc...
I wonder why the realtors and business people in Costa Rica don't
try to explain to the Costa Rica Government how important this is for the expats that come from those countries that are not in the list.
I'm going to email the Embassy of Costa Rica about this.
Costa Rica: Photos size - Help:
Khol or anybody else,
My lawyer emailed me and she said that the photos we took in Playas del Coco weren't accepted due to poor quality.
We need to take new Passport photos in color.
I wonder if the size is the same as in Canada because to be honest it looked to me that the photos we took in Costa Rica were narrower.
My lawyer didn't answer my email about the size of the photos and we need to send them Tomorrow to the lady who takes care of the documents here in Canada so that she can send everything at the same time.
I checked their Embassy website but I couldn't find this information.
I just want to make sure that no document will be refused!
Thanks.
Costa Rica: Hotel in San Jose:
In November we are going to travel by bus from Playas del Coco to San Jose to be fingerprinted.
We plan to spend one night there.
Should we stay downtown?
We have never been there!
If anyone is familiar with a good hotel there I would appreciate your help!
Thanks.
Costa Rica: Taking a kitchen aid:
I apologize for my ignorance but....
I would like to take my kitchen aid to Costa Rica.I've had it for 3 years and we are giving away everything but this item I would like to keep.
I heard we can take an item up to $600.00 (I think) every 6 months.
This will be my first time doing it!
Am I supposed to ask for a special form upon arrival to declare it or should I do it before?
If so, where do I get it?
Do they have it i the plane?
Thanks.
