Greece: Father in Greece w/ cancer:
This could be to anyone whose parent is ill and living abroad, in any country. I did not read every word of your post, sorry. However, trying to do things anywhere remotely, including in and from the US, is not going to give you any peace of mind. Your concern and love are such that, if I were you, I would take all the energy you're putting into research (time is money), and do everything I could to trael to him and represent him where he is, not from where you are. I don't know your situation but there are things in life that cannot be measured. Raise money from your family, close friends, whomever. Think of how it would work, not how it wouldn't. I lost my father years ago and still feel sad that I was not by his side when he died. Your father may still have a chance.
Chile: expat group in Santiago:
I think this is the one I belonged to a few years ago and may join again. I googled exactly the three words following and got what's below that. I believe it's a Yahoo group so you could look them up as Plan B if the email listed no longer leads to someone or something:

Mexico: Merida for thanksgiving:
This is not specifically Thanksgiving but the discussion makes me think I may have found an experienced Yucatan contingent. I have not been to Mérida for almost 40 years but have a friend whose Mayan husband grew up in that area. I will ask him the following as well, but wanted an expat perspective, too. I hope to learn Yucatec but do speak fluent Spanish and love living in it. I'd love to be a short drive away from Mérida for all of its beauties and bustle. However, I'm a contemplative, an artist, musician, poet, and sole entrepreneur, so all together, I hope for quiet and access to the water to survive and thrive. Does any of you live in or know of 1) a small town or village 2) close to the Gulf or other water 3) with wifi to keep up my work and family connections 4) where I'd not be surrounded by English in daily life? It sounds like a tall order, and maybe such a combination is "just" a pipe dream, but that's where my best adventures have always begun. Thank you kindly!
Greece: What is Your Favorite Beach?:
Hi, Geraldincrete, I came late to this forum and two years have passed since you posted this. Is it still unspoiled as you describe? I looked up that specific beach online and it seemed there was a lot going on around it. Please advise, thanks!
Greece: Escaping from frenetic Athens in summer:
Hello, Mabelline .... I came to this forum late, but just looked up "quiet" and found your post. I went to your website but was it hijacked by a commercial firm? It's full of ads and I can't find anything on there by you. Please advise, if you'd be so kind! I'm interested in "off the beaten track" in so many ways, including to avoid large cruise ships that pollute the harbors and cram towns with people. Thanks!
