Portugal: FBI fingerprint in UK?:

We sent fingerprints to the FBI from Ecuador. We printed off the form from the FBI website and went to the police department in Ecuador and had the prints done. Then we filled out the rest of the form and sent by FedEx or DHL. The key thing was to use one of the approved channelers that are listed on the FBI website. We had the results back within a week. I don't see why it would matter from where outside the U.S. you send them, as long as you can find someone to take a good set of your prints.

Portugal: Applying for Type 1 Visa outside the U.S.:

My husband and I are U.S. citizens who are currently living in Ecuador. We have been here for over 3 years and we now wish to move to Portugal. I have been following the visa application threads, but I have a couple more questions. First, can we apply at the Portuguese consulate in Quito, or would it be better to go to the U.S. to make our application? Also, do we need to get a criminal background check from both the U.S. and Ecuador? Also, I am having trouble getting a good set of fingerprints for the FBI. They have rejected 2 sets as being unreadable. Any alternatives or suggestions? Thank you.
