Trinidad & Tobago: 1 bedroom for rent:

Hi fellow expats! I hope this message finds you all well. I'm a single female from the US looking to rent a room, studio, or 1 bedroom apartment, I'd prefer to be with other expat families, but safety is priority no.1. If you have any information, it would be greatly appreciated. My email address is stephanie.mcgaw@gmail.com. Thanks in advance! PS. I work remotely so stable internet and a quiet work space is a must!

Yes. In fact, you'll need one for every item.

Trinidad & Tobago: Moving to Trinidad...Red Alert!!!:

I think a quick Google search would've provided you with the answers you needed for a work permit. I knew that upon arrival. I've been here 2 months and was well aware about the work permit process prior to coming. Sounds like improper planning to me. What racism have you been feeling? Have you been feeling obligated to certain privileges because of your US citizen status? Trinis don't seem to show any bias, so I hope this isn't the case....

Trinidad & Tobago: Where to start.. NYC to TmT:

Hey there, I just recently "moved" to Trinidad a month ago. Because I am not a citizen and only have my passport, I have to touch down in the US every 3 months. Will you be using your marital status to gain citizenship? If so, that should take care of your work permit question. However, since you have a job you can work remotely, that shouldn't be an issue. As far as assets and investments, I left mine in the US market. Vehicles here are expensive. Is your wife a returning resident? If so, you can probably ship your car or purchase a right steering car and have it shipped, but look up import taxes etc. Electronics are expensive because they're all imported. Ship via boat as much as you can. That's what I will do if I decide to make a permanent move. I'm giving Trinidad a trial period. So far so good. The culture and atmosphere is very relaxed. I've been traveling using the maxi and taxi/drivers to get me around. It's very cheap. Being from Jersey originally, I understand not wanting to stand out as a yankee! I usually have a friend or my boyfriend with me to make sure I'm not paying more for things than what I should. For a while I wouldn't speak because I didn't want to stick out too much. Customer service is not the best. So be prepared for that. I don't take it personal. I brace for it and plan accordingly. Crime is high, but I'm sure your wife and friends will direct you to where you should go etc. If you're from NY, I'd assume you'd know how to get around a metropolitan area. When do you plan on coming?

Trinidad & Tobago: Trinidad and Tobago, here I come!:

Hi All, I'm counting down the days until I call Trinidad home for 6 months. Born in NJ, and currently working and living in the DC metro area, I'm thrilled to be dodging the winter months. I've been following this forum for about a year now, and in that year I've visited about 5 times. During those visits I've gained a pretty good understanding of the culture, people, and way of life. In the mornings I will be working remotely for a few hours, and then babysitting an adorable 1.5 yr. old girl! If anyone else happens to need a last minute babysitter, please feel free to contact me. I was a middle school teacher prior to being a sales professional, so I have experience with children and the US gov't has my fingerprints!! LOL :). In all seriousness, I'm looking forward to my visit and liming with other expats as we navigate a foreign country and culture. Also, I have sprint in the US and will temporarily suspend my service. Does anyone know how the sim card system works for an iphone? Thanks in advance for any feedback and encouraging words. Please don't take this opportunity to tell me how negative TT is (TechRep, I'm looking at you! :)). ~Steph

Trinidad & Tobago: Upholstery and Furniture Recommendations:

Thinking I may ship furniture as well. Does anyone have a quote on that cost? Moving from Washington DC, US.

Trinidad & Tobago: Expat moms:

Hi Msturge, Do you know if any expat moms are in need of a nanny? I will be moving from the US, and would like the opportunity do work with other expats. Please advise. Warm Regards

Trinidad & Tobago: US Citizen Moving to Trinidad:

Hi stmiller88, I'm hoping to do the same thing you're doing. Have you gotten any more information since this post.? From my research, if you stay past 90 days, you'll need a visa. Please don't let your passport expire while you're there. You can gain residency/citizenship by naturalization (8 years living in TT), or by getting married to your boyfriend. Even that can take 1-4 years. You can also gain citizenship if one if your parents is a citizen. Please share any information you may have as well. Thanks

Laughing that your assumption was that the post was from a US citizen, but was in fact from a Kenyan! You know what they say about making assumptions...
