Nicaragua: Hot water????:
As an experiment, I built a bread box hot water heater out of 1/2 of a metal barrel and a tank that a welder in Yalaquina constructed for me. The tank prooved to be the hardest part. I ended up bringing my compressor to the welders shop and pressurizing the tank to find the leaks, which he then welded. A further problem with the tank was no rust proofing (Porcelian lining). If the water sat in the tank for a long time it came out red! The barrel C$300, glass C$300, tank C$500, I had a PandT valve. In testing, unit produced water at 152 degrees at mid afternoon. With a tempering valve, this could be mixed with water at ambient temp at approximately nine to one. So ten gallons at 152 degrees, mixed with 90 gallons at 90 degrees would yield 100 gallons at 105 degrees.
I tried using the electric units (widow makers) that screw on the shower piping and burned out the electric coils several times! I finally figured out that the water supply would contain air pockets and as they came thru the shower head allowed the element to fry itself!
I presently use a "Tiny Titan" 110 volt 2 1/2 gallon hot water heater that I bought at Lowe's six years ago. I flip the switch on about five minutes before entering the shower. Works for me!

Isn't there a business wanting to be born here? I am in Somoto and have gotten on the bus at 4:00AM shopped in Managua and got back home at 8:00PM! I would be happy to pay 50% more for goods delivered to Somoto.
Nicaragua: Driving to Nica & Transporting my stuff...question???:
The vehicles have to be renewed every 30 days! A real pain! At one point, renewal was refused and I was told that I had to drive my RV and tow vehicle all the way back to Mexico! Luckily, friends were looking out for me and it was "fixed" in a few hours.

Hi KWP, Still unable to legalize my dune buggy. Last I heard aduana wanted $5000.00! Next time you go to El Espino look opposite Gallo Pinto. The buggy and the camper are in my driveway. Shook hands twice to sell the buggy and the buyers never came back! The second one was a buyer for the government! Finally saved up for a 1981 toyota pickup, had it two weeks now.
My advice on importing FORGET IT!!!
