Algeria: Private international schools:

Hi Imen, Alexandre Du Mas, is a French school that usually accepts students from all over the world. They do however follow the French curricular. You could always try the French school for diplomats, but then I have no idea who you can contact to make that happen, besides they also follow the French program. Different books but French. There was an English school called Isa (international school of Algeria) I think. They were situated in Hydra. A private one, all English. Not sure if American or British, I'd have to check if they're still operating. Hope it helps and best wishes. M.

Algeria: Just Arrvied in Algeria:

Hi Valns, Beraki isn't the best place to start at and I totally understand the culrural shock. There are a lot more activities' choices in most of Algiers counties, and Beraki is a new area with harsh faces, though Algerians are usually quiet generous and warm. There are gym clubs you can subscribe to but it's quiet different from the US as well as New Zealand I'm guessing. I posted something here to try to socialise but nobody has gotten back at me. The only advantage I have, is that I speak both French and Arabic. You could always try to ask around if anyone speaks English and offer to start a book club, I guess. People here are quiet curious about English, speacially if you can supply the material. Doesn't have to be physical books, printed pages from internet would do just fine, I am convinced. Maybe if you register at your embassy they would offer some tips and activities. Hope it helps. Feel free to contact me, I'd always be glad to interact. Kind Regards and best of luck. M.

Algeria: Getting in touch with US citizens living in Algiers:

Hi there! I'm a dual US / Algerian citizen who just moved back to Algiers last December. I would love to get in touch with other US citizens who also live here who have knowledge of how to pay taxes and if I should register at the embassy. I would also like to take my 10 years old to spend Christmas in the US but I fear the visa refusal. Besides, I miss anything US related and would be nice to just chat! I have called the US embassy but they want me to email them my questions and I'm sceptical, I just feel more comfortable speaking to someone from there. Not sure there is a US citizens community in Algeria, but this is my 1st step. Hope to read some replies soon. Take care, M.

Algeria: SItuation in Algers:

Hello !! I have to agree about the area criteria. It depends where you're going to work and live. There is no food issues I am aware of, and depending where you are bottled water is preferable indeed. If you're going to live in the South part, better not bring your family with you, unless you locate them in Algiers, the capital or one of the main seashores cities. Good luck, M.
