Uruguay: Renting a Cabaña:
My wife and I are spending a year in Uruguay with occasional short trips to other countries. We were put off by the traditional rental scene involving months of prepaid rent, So we had a discussion with Annemarie, who runs Cabañas Anruma near Minas. She usually rents out cabins for short terms like weekends. We came to an agreement for renting a cabin by the month for as long as we need it. It is a nice place on 11 hectares with a lake, swimming pool, horses, cows, and sheep. We even started a small kitchen garden near our cabin. It is about 7 kilometers outside Minas in Lavalleja. A taxi to town is around 300 Pesos, but we found it more convenient to buy a motorcycle for trips around the area. We use the omnibus for longer trips like Punta or Montevideo. Cabañas Anruma is on Google Maps and is easily searched in your browser. I have no financial interest in the operation, but thought it might be useful to let others know of this option.
Uruguay: Getting Internet:
We live in a rural area. Our smart phones get good internet. I need to know how to connect our home and have wifi for the computers and the TV. My neighbor showed me what appears to be a wifi modem / router that creates her home wifi network. When I ask Antel for a wifi modem they say they are out of stock. Am I asking for the right thing? Is there any other hardware available in Uruguay that will accept an Antel sim card and establish a home wireless network?
