Ireland: Obtaining Dual American/Irish citizenship:

Hi! If you have dual citizenship there is no other requirement to live here. Your income is not an issue as you will be a citizen of Ireland. I only peek on this forum now occasionally as I find so much inaccurate information being passed through posts. I obtained my paternal grandmothers birth certificate. and marriage certificate. My dads birth certificate. My birth certificate and my marriage certificate. I contacted the Irish Consulate in Boston and it was a fairly straight forward process. After obtaining my dual citizenship I applied for and received my Irish passport. Within a year I was here looking for a house and have been very happy living here ever since.. Don't hesitate. Just do it!

Ireland: Citizenship through foreign births registry?:

Hello, I have made inquiries concerning this very subject and was told by immigration here in Ireland applicant's parent or grandparent MUST have been a citizen of Ireland (through birth or decent) PRIOR to said applicants birth. I believe meachair may have been referencing the website citizensinformation.ie. Here on this site is all the information I needed to apply, be granted citizenship and make a seamless move to Ireland. Within the section Foreign Births Registrar it is explained in first two paragraphs.. The last sentence of second paragraph states in bold letters ..."before the birth of the next generation. " I would guess this is highlighted in bold because of so much misinterpretation. I hope this helps!

Ireland: looking to move this year!:

Hi! I just moved here (to Ireland) in September with my American husband. I have dual US and Irish citizenship. US citizens do not need a visa of any type to come over. As your spouse he is entitled to live and work here. I would suggest however starting the process upon arriving to have his passport stamped with a G4 stamp. His entry into Ireland allows him up to 90 days stay. Here's where I suggest starting the process as soon as you arrive. Just google the local Immigration office. We went to the Ennis Garda station as we are living in County Clare. You will need to present his birth certificate, your marriage certificate, photo ID and your Irish passport. Not sure about job searching as we started that process after arriving. Good luck! All the work is well worth it! I have no desire to ever return to the U.S.!

Ireland: Transporting Pets To Ireland:

Having just moved from the states to Ireland with 2 smaller dogs and a cat I can give you my opinion and suggestion. We flew from Boston to Dublin via Aer Lingus direct. We were told this was the only acceptable air line coming from the U.S. We were also informed Aer Lingus will only transport pets provided you work with Pet Express. My first thought was 'Wow, do they have the monopoly on this or what"? I did quite a bit of research and found no other option that was worth the lives of my three beloved pets. There are definitely a few vet visits involved but really the cost was minimal. Typical shots required, microchipping, etc... Quite a bit of paperwork as well but well worth it! Our pets were taken very well care of and when we picked them up in Dublin they were happy and bouncing around anxious to see us!! Such relief. I would highly suggest speaking with Cris Moy. Patient and a saint! I have heard horror stories concerning folks flying into other countries and then making their way into Ireland via ferry or an additional flight. Risky, expensive and extremely time consuming. Did I mention risky? Good luck!
