Ecuador: Defamation and Cyber-Bullying Laws in Ecuador?:
I’ve read that Ecuador has some relatively toothy Laws as regards online Defamation (and Damages), and wonder what laws might be in place regarding online Bullying (and Damages) against individuals with a documented history of Bullying/Abuse, and whether a website which knowingly allows for a pattern of Abusive Bullying can be held accountable along with the individuals who practice such behavior?
Ecuador: So long and thanks for all the fish:
Dear Frank,
I share your sentiments but am not so easily offended or quick to realize that too many of these folks do NOT have good intentions. I was willing to take the good with the bad for sips of sometimes solid info mixed in with mounds of dubious facts, until I realized that the mean-spiritedness of the regular participants effectively poisons the well:((( Bien Viaje! Colombia: Un Practico Apolitical Pregunta Por Favor:
Hola Muchachos,
What is the maximum number of days that a US Passport holder can be a "tourist" in Colombia per year? aka 90 days then exit/re-enter for another 90 days, etc. for a maximum of how many days in Colombia each calendar year?? Gracias, C7
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Looking for Room to rent - Cuenca:
Do the rental terms in Cuenca (or elsewhere in Ecuador) usually begin on the first of the month? i.e. is there an optimal time during each month (the 1st week) to snatch up the best unit(s) which will become available at the beginning of the next month?? C7
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Finally making the trip...:
Excepting for your time on the Coast (to which I've never been, but coastal roads are mostly sea-LEVEL), you got way more to worry about than crazy Ecuadorian drivers: you spent much time driving "1st world" hair-pin mountain roads? Was it fun?? Multiply your experience TIMES TEN, add the fact that they are NOT 1st world mountain roads, and understand that unless you are driving El Buso or a tractor trailer you will be considered road-kill-on-wheels. (Vaya Con Dios?) That said, I admire your courage, aspirations and determination. Bien Viaje:)))
Ecuador Welcome Forum: WTF:
Lost posts on the same date as the Speed post; subject threads bumping up without any new posts; ongoing layout/ lack of text wrap-around issues. Otherwise you guys have done a good job. Thank you:)
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Expats to Mexico?:
It worries me that I have to agree with everything Reem just said, though at least I'm seeing it from a different latitude;) (However rare it may be, common sense *is* universally applicable.) It is also worth pointing out that Mexico is on the North American Continent, while Ecuador is in South America. The drivability factor (on a one-time basis, with EXTREME Caution) does make Lake Chapala (at *least* 30 minutes from Ajijic) attractive for relocating, as does the *current* exchange rate, as does short/ cheap/ EZ flights to the US, if one has reasons to do go there. And while I generally prefer Mexicans in Mexico to "Americans" most *everywhere*, Ecuadorans are very different people from Mexicans. The culture, and perhaps the people, is/are gentler. I don't know why: were the Inca 'gentler' than the Aztecs? Was the Spanish "influence" upon Mexico more brutal?? Does living next door to a Super Power, (whose imperial actions toward your country impress even the Chinese:(, create a 'less-gentle' citizenry??? And/or, does it have a lot to do with guns and drugs and decapitations and more official trade issues and a dozen other good reasons???? Again, I am fond of certain parts of Mexico at certain times, but the situation nation-wide is wayyyyy less stable than the little Country of Ecuador. And getting back to the practical/proximity considerations, it is wayyyy easier to bale back to the uSa than from South America. BUT, you have largely erased any *other* reasonable options if Mexico doesn't suit. (I suppose Costa Rica might be considered reasonable...) Whereas if Ecuador doesn't suit, South America has MANY reasonable (if not potentially good) options for someone who DEFINITELY wants to live in a different culture than the uSa. I've rambled a bit, but the bottom line is that if someone is *just* looking for a more affordable and milder climate to retire to, as opposed to a less comodified culture to LIVE in, go to Mexico. It'll be easier and cheaper to return to the land of the free and the brave if you end up preffering a "comfortable" death over a more human existence. C7
Ecuador Welcome Forum: cigarettes:
Bootleg Dunhills and Davidoffs are cheap on the street and oddly ubiquitous around the 2nd/3rd World. If you must smoke small, bring filters and papers to roll your own Mapachu, otherwise plan to quit cigs and take up cigars;)
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Wondering what you miss in Ecuador?:
I asked this (oft asked) question a while back and I hope your market research bears greater fruit. None-the-less, I imagine Amazon (w/FREE SHIPPING & w/o Taxes), Walmart and perhaps Trader Joe's (or Hobby Lobby?) would top whatever list you may muster. A more generic list would be topped by cheap Hamburgers, bad Pizza and xyz, depending on the Expat's Region of origin/lack of taste. Oh yeah - faster service, more "order", and more reliable delivery of products and services. Did I miss anything O Wise Ones?;)
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Five Dollar Bills please !!:
