Hungary: Citizenship:

We moved to Hungary 9 months ago and I had applied for my Hungarian citizenship 7 months ago, My husband applied for Residency permit (2year). He received his permit in November, two (2) months after applying. I received my citizenship notification the beginning of January 2016 and received my official Lakcimkartya 3 weeks ago. Paperwork seems to be the norm here. We had gone to the immigration office at least a dozen times, being called in for paperwork that was forgotten to be done, signatures required, Visa extension 18,000 forint pp. Translation of all paperwork ($ Pricey$)- Our Marriage Certificate, my Birth Certificate and of course all documents proving that my parents were born in Hungary (They left in '56) - I was lucky enough to have their marriage and birth certificates as well as grandmothers passport. What held up my paperwork was that my Canadian birth certificate (long form) had a typo on it ~ they made me younger by 10 years! Hey I was happy about that, but had to send it back for a corrected copy(rats!) All in all it was less painfull then expected, at least for us. I was told that I would be required to take an oath but was never called to do so. Looking forward to discovering this beautiful country! ? ?

Hungary: Canadian Expat:

Recently moved to Hungary with hubby, wondering if there is anyone that knows of any get togethers for English speaking expats. Or even a decent place to get a steak dinner LOL!
