I hadn't realized how insidious this expat exchange could be. It is clearly dominated by ameri"guns" and I will do everything within my resources to provide as much information as possible to others. For the time being I would highly recommend that you seek information elsewhere.

Research is not an exact science. What I have learned is this. Ecuadorians dislike ameri"guns". So one of the first things I will do is raise a very large Ecuadorian flag with a much smaller Canadian flag, just so my neighbours know I am not an ameri"gun". The second thing I will do is ingratiate myself as gracefully as possible. The third thing I will do is stay away from so called "expats".

I'm considering retiring to Santa Elena. So am googling like mad. And I must say this state of emergency has me concerned. The property I'm interested in is very close to the beach and I have pets. What are the best measures to take when faced with a natural disaster situation in Ecuador?
