Bermuda: Thinking of relocating to Bermuda:
While many companies operating out of Bermuda do so for tax reasons, as a private individual, you cannot avoid a hefty tax burden.
Paying a minimal amount of income tax may make you think you are a tax dodger, but in fact you are merely the subject of excessive indirect tax (on ridiculously expensive goods and services) rather than direct tax on income.
Your morals can therefore remain intact, unlike your wallet.
Bermuda: Bedding in Bermuda:
First thing to note is that they're not called duvets here; they're called 'comforters', for some reason (and if you think that sounds like something you give a baby to stop them crying, you are not alone).
If you shop around and manage to find a shop having a sale, prices are not so much higher than in the UK. Assuming you don't buy your duvets from Poundland, that is.
Bermuda: How to get a job in Bermuda:
Focus on the sorts of jobs that are performed by expats here and familiarise yourself with the work-permit process, so that you are informed and know what to expect.
If you are a student actuary, with experience in reinsurance, for example, I would say that your chances are good.
But it's a small island and there aren't that many jobs available to expats with limited work experience, so you'll have to work at it and may have to work towards getting the experience you need, before you will have any chance of getting a work permit.
Bermuda: Shipping boxes:
Hello Kate
I used Bermuda Forwarders (http://www.bermudaforwarders.com/) to receive goods here in Bermuda (moving from Malta) last December and the service I got from them was excellent.
Good luck.
Phil
Bermuda: Cost of living:
That's not enough, in my opinion, to have a decent life here. I'd say $5,000 a month is manageable, though you won't be living in luxury.
Bermuda: Ship Household or NOT:
Assuming you are new to the island, you have 90 days from landing in which to get your items through Customs without paying duty. Unless they are < 6 months old, in which case you will have to pay (so you may have to produce receipts for anything which looks new).
Bermuda: US to Bermuda- single 40yr Female-Social/Dating:
Quoting white/black ratios stinks of racism.
Your implication that people who frequent bars are of low quality also leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Some are, some aren't, same as in all walks of life.
Bermuda: Is it really worth it ship?:
You will have 90 days after you land in which to get your stuff into Bermuda duty free (assuming it's more than six months old).
Remember that the electricity is 110V, so if you're coming from the UK (for example), your components probably won't work unless you also buy a step-up transformer.
Bermuda: Transferring money to UK and Euro:
I transferred some money (HSBC account to HSBC account) from Bermuda to an account in Malta (BMD to Euros) last month.
As well as paying an up-front fee of $15, I was charged €29.50 'intermediary fee' for this transaction (I was transferring just over $1,000).
Does anyone know of a cheaper way of making BMD to Euro transfers?
Thanks.
