Portugal: Safety, social atmosphere for retired American single woman?:
Hi Dharmagranny
I totally agree with the previous recomendations. Lisbon/Cascais/Silver Coast will fit your requests. I am not a real estate agent and I am not even living in Portugal, but I have an excellent contact from a trustful, experient, licenced and acknowledged Real Estate Agency in Lisbon, that definitely could give you a personalized support with all the search and legal/tax challenges. Just send me your email/mobile, by private message, with all the additional information you feel important, and they will contact you . Rgds, Sandra

Portugal: Contacts, Advice:
Hi Paddy. You will need someone who could be able to help you with all the arrangements. Lisbon/ Cascais/Estoril , Porto or Algarve may be the best choices.
I suggest you to contact Bernardo, an very experienced and accredited Real Estate Agent (jbernardo.bernardo@gmail.com) which could guide you thru properties and trustfull tax advisors/lawers . Good luck.
Portugal: Advice needed please...:
Hi Scarlatti. Portugal has fabulous cities to live, but I think it will be easier for you to consider Porto, Lisbon/Cascais/Estoril or Algarve, because there are a lot of english spoken people in that regions. I would advise you to begin finding a central place to stay for some time and travel around and then, after, make the decision about how/where to rent/buy a house. Seasonal renting can be a possibility for the firt times, as there are a lot of offers in that area and are easy to book. A good law/tax advisor would also be very helpfull when you decide to move, rent a house for a larger period or buy your dream house. Portuguese love pets, so you won't have problems with yours, but there are some rules you have to know.
Good luck.
