Portugal: Painless Phone Call For Our SEF Resident Permit Appointment:

Thanks so much for posting the info. My question is, wouldn't it be better to wait a month or more so that you could fine the apt. you want to live in before you make the appointment? Can you start the process and then move? Also do you need to have a visa to just visit for a week or more? Good luck with your adventure, we will be following your posts and rooting for your success.

Portugal: a thought:

I am reading how even the small towns are packed with tourist in the summer months. Is it advisable to leave in May and come back in Sept? We do not like crowds. We really want to be near the water, have some shops near by and just chill. We are not into the bar scene or sports. We hope to be able to travel all over while we are there and see countries we haven't been to before. Again we will be on a strict budget and plan on camping when we travel. thoughts please. PS I do not have stars in my eyes about any of this. I am starting early and reading everything i can before we make a choice.

Portugal: Good area...:

Ok I guess i want to be blunt about something. I have been reseaching best places to retire on a limited income. The Algarve was one of the areas in the top 10 places. I have been reading a lot of info about the area and have read that a person can live comfortably on $20,000 a year. Is this true or are the reports exaggerated? Belize is in the top 10 also but we are in need of good medical care and the thought of getting on a helicopter and being flown anywhere in a crisis is to scary. Please share your thoguhts about cost so we can make an educated choice. We will be coming there in the next year to check it out. We are not making rash choices and are not planning long term for anything. Thanks for your help

Thanks, I wondered about that also

Portugal: Algarve Info:

Hi, We are thinking about moving to the area in a few yrs. First we want to take 3 weeks and tour the different areas to see what would be a good fit. The draw to the Algarve area is the l0w cost of living and the good medical

Portugal: Residency Visa (Not the Golden Visa):

Thank you so much for all the information. Of course it would be easier to hire a lawyer to handle everything. You did not state the cost fro such a service which I understand it is personal. The problem with us is that we are moving there for many reasons. The biggest is cost of living. We are not in the position to pay thousands to an attorney. It is like everything in life. If you have the money you have things easier. I will look into this and see if it is feasible. I love planning for the future and trying to be positive. Glad to know we can get a car in Germany w/o much problem if there is non in Portugal. I will miss my lexus and explorer terrible but a small car will be less costly by everything i have been told. Good luck on your retirement. We too aree going to do volunteer work and maybe teach.
