Ireland: FBR with a missing document ?:
I had to supply my mom's birth and death certificate in order to get my dual citizenship, along with my grandfather's ( who was born in IE).
Have you checked with IE site? Does your mother have a sister or brother who might help out? In NYS, I had to enlist the help of my aunt as I couldn't get my grandfather's death certificate (only siblings or spouse could get it). Good luck!
Ireland: Question re US docs for FBR:
I went thru dual irish citizenship by quinn...I"m not sure if they are still in business....they were out of California....I was able to send all my docs to them and they got my grandfather's birth certificate from Belfast. Got the FBR within 2 months.
Ireland: Buying Health Insurance:
Do you have Irish citizenship or dual citizenship? Unless you do, you might need to check with the Irish govt. how long you can stay? We met a couple that spends 6 months in Ireland, then 6 months in Ireland. Best of luck!
Ireland: Mobile Home Laws?:
We lived in Co Kerry... the only mobile homes we saw were in holiday lots... We rented a house from a family who redid an old stone house in the county... it took them 7 years to get it done..
Also are you Irish citizens? or EU members... if not you will need to check residency requirements...best of luck!
Ireland: Bringing a Dog into Ireland:
What breed of dog do you have? There are restrictions for some breeds. Also if you have a Pug, Peke type pup...many airlines will not transport them due to their breathing issues...
I also need to add in these posts... if you are moving over.. do you have citizenship or an EU passport... otherwise you may be restricted how long u can stay....or have 50k per person..check the IE govt site..best of luck!
Ireland: Advice on moving to Ireland:
I totally agree. We tried to retire there too ( I have dual citizenship), the real estate and trying to get a mortgage from the banks was impossible. They wouldn't count our pensions, etc as income. We miss Ireland, but not having a place to set our roots down, we are back in NY. We lucked out renting, but 1000 euros a month was dear....and trying to find another rental was tough in the Kenmare area. Best of luck!
Ireland: Left hand drive automatic car:
Hello! We lived in Ireland last year and bought a car from a dealer outside of Killarney. We ended up buying a standard ( manual) with right side driver's wheel. Automatics were hard to find and more $$. We had US licenses, international permits...but as far as Irish car insurance goes now...we needed to get an Irish license within a year. I have dual citizenship, but it didn't matter. If you already have an Irish license, it might be easier for you....best wishes!
Ireland: Irish bank charges and NZ mortgage:
We had hoped to retire to Ireland ( I have dual citizenship) but the Irish banks and their mortgage system was crazy ( and the Irish told us that too). They wouldn't count our pensions, etc..as it was not earned income. If you have cash, it will be easier to get a mortgage. We were told too, but the real estate folks, folks are now holding on to their homes as prices are beginning to rise now....We eventually came back to the USA, we miss Ireland. Wishing you the best of luck!
Ireland: Obtaining Dual American/Irish citizenship:
Hi! My maternal grandfather was from Ireland...I ended up going through irishcitizenship.com ( or net). It's out of CA. I was teaching and just did not have the time to get everything. I was lucky as my wonderful aunt was able to obtain my grandfather's death certificate for me (in NY I couldn't get it...only spouses and children). Dual was able to obtain his birth certificate, yes it cost me a few pennies, but when I got the papers that said I was an Irish citizen, and then my Irish passport...I cried.
We recently retired and we tried to buy a place in Ireland ( Co Kerry) but the mortgage system right now is so tight....the banks only make 2% on a mortgage...they wouldn't count my teacher pension or SS...it wasn't earned income. My advice, save as much as you can, so you can pay cash. I'm playing the lotto here in NY and maybe our Irish dream of a place in the homeland will come true! Best wishes! Cheers!
Ireland: Purchasing a car and getting an Irish driver's license under a short-term visa:
We got our insurance thru a office in Killarney...it was 750 euros for the 2 of us to drive...I can look it up for you if you are interested. We had a little Alfa Romeo (sp)...
