Uruguay: Black American Looking For Expat Mentor.:

I was born in Uruguay and lived there til 1995, and return occasionally. Having small children myself, my first suggestion is for you to go on vacation there and see if it is something the whole family will like. Racism is not common, but there have been some instances of racial slurs. The best city would be Montevideo, mainly because it is the largest. The cost of moving to Uruguay will depend on where in the states you are. Regarding crime, the common sense precautions as in any big US city apply, some neighborhoods are less safe at night than others. Culture shock? everything is slower than in the US, common house comforts in the US may be luxuries there. Unpaved roads in many places.

Uruguay: To Uruguay with a new baby | baby formula:

Hi, this is my first posting. I am going to Uruguay sometime in April 2007 with a BABY, he'll be 7 months old then. What is the availability of baby food/formula in Uruguay comparable to what is found in the States (i.e. Enfamil, Similac, gerber foods) ? thanks in advance, David
