Honduras: Roatan-Retire:

There is a FB page called Roatan free business advertising , where people list things for sale. You could try that. You could also contact some of the car rental places , some of them sell their cars when they get older. As far as a golf cart I don't know how to help you there.

Honduras: Property manager:

We use Roatan Property Management, roatanpropertymanagement.com They are located near our property . They have been helpful, trustworthy and reliable thus far. We purchased our property through Roatan Life real estate. They also do property management. They are located at Lawson Rock. Depending on your needs and property location I would say either of these companies are trustworthy.

Honduras: Escape to Honduras:

We personally have fallen in love with Roatan. We were there in July and it was not overly hot. There is usually a breeze , lots of shade. I will say building our home in July heat was at times sweltering but I am sure that is the case most anywhere in July. We are all in with our retirement from the states, transferring our assets to where we want to be rather than hoping there will be retirement money left when we are ready for it. There is a great expat community and the island is very safe compared to most of the main land.

Honduras: Advise about Moving to Honduras:

Roatan has many flights in and out. They have direct flights from Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Dallas from all major US based airlines. They also have smaller airlines traveling from the island to Belize and other Central America locations. It is a fairly safe island with a large expat community. You will want to get to know different areas of the island before you decide where to purchase. It is an up and coming island which has been featured in many "top 10" travel lists in the last few years. We found it to be a prefect place for our future retirement and purchased there 2 years ago.

Honduras: Activity:

Tripadvisor seems to be a little more active but mostly for vacation questions not resident one.

Honduras: Cell phone:

You have to make sure your phone is unlocked before you can put the Honduras chip in it. I took my old Samsung ATT phone and spent 2 days unlocking it before being able to put a chip in it. Talk to your cell phone carrier in the states before going they have to give you the code. It also has to be a phone that can be used internationally, all ATT phones are but I don't think all Vorizon phones are. Amazon sells quite a few unlocked phones cheep this is also another option. The chip , minutes and data are reasonable in Honduras and can be purchased for short periods of time at many locations.

Honduras: Oakridge:

Oakridge is a long way from Sandy Bay. On our first long visit to the island we decided to drive around and we were very surprised long it takes to get from place to place. Oakridge is 24 miles from Sandy Bay but it will take you at least an hour if not more. The roads are anything but straight and driving fast is usually a bad idea. I would take a day trip from one to the other but I would not travel it at night. Others may have differing opinions. Are you staying at Oakridge for a specific reason. If you want to get to know the island staying in Sandy Bay , West End or West Bay may be a better idea. These areas are close to each other. Then you can take day trips to Oakridge or Punta Gorda. We wanted to go to Camp bay but we were there during rainy season and the roads were bad. If you are looking to do things on the West end of the island you may be better off staying at the West end. Just my thoughts hope it helps a little.

Honduras: Moving to and starting a business:

Here is a link to the MLS on Roatan they have an established board of realtors and I would suggest using a real estate agent who is a member. There are usually businesses for sale. http://roatanmls.com/ We are in the process of building a small Eco-lodge and I have done some research. The employment laws in Honduras are very different. You will want to figure a lot of research before deciding what will work for you.

Honduras: Airlines:

Well there is convenient and there is affordable not always the same thing. If you live at or near a direct flight location you can find both. I have found in my search that flights from the north east US start around $1000 and work their way down around $700 with 2 stops. One stop is more like $900. I have found some good prices with Avancia air that heads to main land before going to Roatan. Unfortunately I missed the low point I am currently waiting for it to go down again.

Honduras: Amazon Shipping:

Has anyone had things shipped to Roatan from Amazon, com? If so how does it work?
