Colombia: Santa Marta or Barranquilla or neither:
Greetings from Key West. Barranquilla and Santa Marta are excellent choices. Although Santa Marta is the best kept secret.. Best to take a week or two to check it out. Barranquilla
is a large very busy seaport city. Santa Marta has some beautiful beaches, National Park along the coast, and the highest coastal mountain range in the world. I spent a large portion of November and December in Santa Marta with plans on retiring there in the near future. The Caribbean Coast of Colombia rocks!
Colombia: Shipping Cos.:
It would be cheaper for you to rent a U-Haul and drive it to Miiami. That way you have the documentation and see everything first hand. Also you will know who the shipper and receiver is?
Colombia: Building a better forum?:
Yup! It can be annoying. To many senseless posts. It seems like there are to many people who post questions as if they do not have a clue on what goes on in Colombia. I just returned to Colombia after seven years of not making the trip. Traveled there at every school break from 2005-2007.. I have many friends in Colombia and retiring in Santa Marta this year. There was an outstanding site called Poor But Happy/Colombia a few years back that was wonderful. OK guys this site has potential. Let's get it together:-)
Colombia: is anyone coming from USA?:
Check with the airlines package services. May need to have it certified. But most airlines have a airport counter to counter service. Start with Jet Blue. They fly into Cartagena.
Colombia: Lots of dead bodys everywhere.....:
Thanks for the update, I had a terrible time trying to find Hydrogen Peroxide in Santa Marta. Then a friend told me that it is Aqua Ocigenada in Colombia.
Colombia: Colombian movie The Color of the Mounains:
Outstanding, Thank you for sharing!
Colombia: Best SA Country to Establish Residence?:
Although Equador has its perks. The fact of the matter is their government is not as stable as Colombia's . Colombia has much more to offer and it is a much cheaper place to live.
Colombia: Best city for an aspiring marine biologist:
I would suggest Santa Marta. The near by small town of Taganga has become a Mecca for scuba diving along the Caribbean coast and in National Park Tayrona. I have lived in Key West, have scuba dived in Honduras. The reefs in Colombia are amazing by comparison.
Colombia: Used Moto to Colombia:
I had some Australian friends years ago that rode motorbikes down to Panama. Then they loaded them on a sailboat with a guy who runs back and forth from Colon to Turbo, Colombia. Said it was great fun and not that expensive.
Colombia: Taganga:
Greetings from Key West. I just spent 52 days in Colombia. Santa Marta is one of my favorite spots on earth. Taganga is safe although the latest version of the Lonely Planet Colombia says otherwise. I always stay in Santa Marta and do my day trips to Taganga and Playa Grande the next beach. Very little goes on in Taganga in the evening. The scuba diving is fantastic!
