Bulgaria: Jobs:
Do you speak and write fluent Bulgarian? And have a good working knowledge of Bulgarian law? If so then you may be able to get a job as a legal secretary in one of the larger towns or cities but probably unlikely.
If you have qualifications you may pick up the odd bit of work as a carer for expats, have seen the odd request for this.
There are a few expat run firms that do cleaning and holiday property cleaning, but again need to either be prepared to travel a long way or live close to a resort.
And of course be willing to work for Bulgarian rates.
Bulgaria: Kennels:
Depends on area and your prices, already several Brits run boarding kennels, there are 2 or 3 large, well known ones Veliko Turnovo way, couple around Yambol, one in north Bulgaria, one near Varna I think.....and then there are the Bulgarian run dog hotels.
And there are many rules and regulations to abide by for running a boarding kennels with inspections etc.
There are also now quite a few pet sitters to look after animals in your own home, as many people have several pets.
Bulgaria: Electric Bills:
Is the house in a company name as certainly EVN charge a standing monthly charge for companies, its around 7 or 8 levs I think.
Do you have COT or another security system that uses electric?
Is the electric even on?
Bills of around 100 levs a month would be expected in winter if someone was living in the house, using electric boilers for water, cooking, maybe supplementing heating etc.
Otherwise you need to get your meter checked and also make sure there is no one in your house or using your electric supply.
Bulgaria: Medical Insurance?:
Most immigration places want to see your EHIC card, regardless of the fact this is only meant to be used for tourists.
If you buy a yearly insurance policy then chances are you will only get a yearly long stay permit. It also depends on how long your passport is valid for as well.
Bulgaria: Obtaining long-term residence:
If you still have your UK passport then its fairly easy. Your main problem will be showing medical cover as presume you no longer have an EHIC card from the UK or elsewhere. If you can show you have been paying into a system somewhere else they may accept this but we moved to Bulgaria from France and they would not accept the EHIC cards from France as only for a year and as our passports are from the UK. In the end we applied for new EHIC cards from the UK. We could also have taken out a Bulgarian insurance policy.
You will need your house deeds or rental contract for your place of residence in Bulgaria, and proof you have a bank account in Bulgaria. Some regions want to know you have a set amount in the bank account. For us we just showed our debit card.
If you are in Bulgaria for more than 90 days and intending to stay then you should apply for the long stay visa. You do not need a type D visa if you are a UK citizen.
Usually you'll get the long stay card for 5 years, but if your passport or medical cover runs out before then, it will be limited to that amount of time. My EHIC card only had a year and half left to run so my first long stay residency was only for 1.5 years. My partner got 5 years as he had a new EHIC card. However, its easy to renew each year if you have to and only costs around 30 levs.

Bulgaria: Driving with dogs:
Which route do you intend to take?
Bulgaria: kosharitsa:
Yes of course, what do you want to know? Kosharitsa (near Nessebar) is a fairly large Bulgarian village. Expensive as close to the coast. Its 6km inland from Sunny Beach. Few expats there, mostly just in summers in new developments.
