Martinique: visa requirements:

Hi, we are a family of 4 soon to be 5 looking to move to Martinique for at least a year in 2017. Does anyone know the visa requirements for a longstay. I see that it is part of the European union- does that mean as a british citizen I could emigrate easily and also work? My husband works abroad for 6 months of the year so if work is hard to find that would not be a problem. we currently live in France and have done for the past 4 years. Is it best to ring the French embassy? Also any advice on the nicest areas to live and how to find longterm rentals would be appreciated. thanks for your help
