Australia: working on the mines, perth advice needed please:

Hi there, im looking to emigrate to oz later this year, im just looking for any info about working on the mines in Perth. Im a mechanical maintenance engineer (fitter), and im wondering what the pay is like, what the job availability is like and if there are any more forums more specifically related to mining as im having trouble finding any. So if theres anyone with that info or anyone who is currently working on the mines and can tell me any good / bad points, or just any contacts for decent companies / agencies recruiting i would be very grateful.
