Belize: A day in Corozal:

I would go to Mama Junes for lunch or maybe Tony's Inn on the Bay for a blackened grouper sandwich and fries. I would have a couple of freshly squeezed key lime daquris.. I would probably sit in the park and watch all the people go about their daily affairs. I would walk on the bay and hang out..The beauty of Corozal is there is a very lazy, simple vibe there........

Belize: connecting with Ex pats in Cayo:

The one called Terrific on here seems like a nice potentially decent contact and friend.. Net working with both expats and especially Belizeans is a wise thing to do...

Belize: Where to get shampoo etc.:

I am very particular about my hair products,,I take my own.. I color my hair and I did not wash it in tap water, in Corozal. it will make it feel like cotton candy. I bought a five gallon gas can and got rain water from a friend's cistern to wash my hair. I am not kidding you. I would NOT GO TO BELIZE with out a prescription tube of cortizone cream... If you get bitten by a Docta Fly and you forget that cream, you can find some relief with Vicks Vapo rub, they sell that. If you take meds take them. I could find most of my meds there when I took them. They were usually made in Europe or Belgium..I wore one of those yellow curly bracelet insect repellent things, it worked quite well. You can find tooth paste if you don't mind flouride and OFF insect repellent. It is twice as expensive, I carried my own down there. They consider Avon products as top of the line, which they are ok but the stuff down there runs on the cheesy side and is made in China or Panama. I would take a couple of decent towels, they cannot be found there.....

Belize: How to Find Housing in Corozal:

I own a house in Corozol I am selling. Personally, I would go crazy if I stayed at the Mirador for a month.. I guess it possible...

Belize: Help, Belizean surety info:

But I would run that plan by the embassy and my lawyer first...You are in a stickey wicket, I pray it all works out well for you...

Belize: public vs private heatlh care facilities:

I broke my arm down in Belize in Corozal. I went to the local hospital. They gave me a Voltaren injection and set it. They were not allowed to give me anything for pain. I had to go to a pharmacy and get some codeine. I just walked in a got it. I don't think people seem to grasp the idea that in third world countries, at least in Belize there is hardly any health care per say. I had a bad fall and found a US trained internest who practices in Belize. My buddy down there who has bad heart problems has to fly back to the states every time something comes up. I do know some go into Chetemal, Mexico and pay out of pocket totally for services rendered. They are not operating under the system we are operating up here in the states. One of the wheel chairs at the hospital was a plastic lawn chair tied onto a set of what looked like big lawn mower wheels if that gives you any indication...

Belize: Owning a business and visas:

They feed you a chicken foot for breakfast at Hattieville on a concrete floor with fire ants. I would NOT want to end up there....

Belize: Looking for work:

I think unless you start a business, finding work in Belize will be next to impossible. The few jobs they do have are given to Belizeans. It is not like the US where there are lots of different venues, manufacturing....The expats I know all have their own businesses. Two own construction companies and a couple own real estate companies. I know a chiropractor who is not a native. A couple own bed and breakfasts, a resort or two, and one guy runs a coffee house. To land a job say as a teacher is not an option. It is not that simple to just go there and get employed...I don't mean to sound like a wet blanket, but I am just telling you the truth.

Belize: Boomer couple from LA:

If you go down there, do not forget a tube of prescription strength cortazone cream....Don't wear flashy jewelry and don't flash a big wad of cash..It is wise to have a Belizean friend do your haggling for you or you certainly could be thiefed or chanced as they say. It is a cool place, you just need to figure out how to navigate the waters so to speak. The roads and shopping are beyond lousy that is a fact....The medical care is basic to say the least.. A wheel chair in the local hospital was a plastic lawn chair tied on wheels if that gives you sort of the gist..Just go scope it out and draw your own conclusions....

Belize: Phone service:

Well Bobby... I called the US and texted back to the US plenty on my cheap flip phone. I know I didn't dream it. Maybe things have changed over the past year, but that was my experience...
