Philippines: Interacting with the Locals:

OK, I've made it. Nearly a year in the planning. I'm in Tagaytay and after much stress (6-days) I've found a beautiful, furnished house in Tagaytay. Gated, 24-hour guards. They asked (they: a Brit with a Pinay wife living in London) $25K Pesos but settled for $20K. I might be 5-KM from Tagaytay proper but the guards mean business, there is a pool and lots of neighbors. I've met with the ex-Pat bunch. A great group. We move in tomorrow and I'm thrilled. Is it paradise?? Hell no. But there sure is a lot to work with. Nice, nice, people and I'm excited for the change. Just remember "Salamat Ate" (ah-tay --female) or "Salamat Kuya" (male) and you can put a smile on anyones face. They see you're trying. Happy to be here. It ain't easy but what worth anything is???

Philippines: Tagaytay! Mission Impossible??:

My Pinay and I have landed in Tagaytay today. Out networking trying to find a 1-2 Bdrm. Condo/Apt, fully furnished open as to length of say. We are just getting "far away" looks. Anybody have any suggestions?? Thanks in advance.

Philippines: Baguio:

Well after nearly a year of planning I'm here. It comes as advertised. Kennon Rd. closed due to mudslide so we detoured to Kennon Rd. These people are nuts. What a ride. Anyway it's beautiful, crowded, polluted, rainy, filled with pines and great vistas. Never seen anything like it. Love to meet some ex-Pats in the area. Serious Condo Rental shopping starts tomorrow. Any and all advice welcomed. Thank you.

Philippines: Clark to Baguio:

Flying into Clark from Hong Kong originating in L.A.. Anyone know if I could hire a driver at Clark to drive me to Baguio?? Such an animal exist??? Thank you.

Philippines: Palawan and Puerto Princessa rental Housing:

I don't post here much anymore. I look in on all the bull***t from frustrated old "Soldiers of Fortune" dudes talking about beheadings, and people cut in half with chain saws. IED's. Bombs...and the usual doom and gloom...all under the guise of warning those who think the Philippines might be an option to close out Act 3. Looks like "not under your watch!!" Well this just in. I have planned a year now to come and make my home in Baguio with my Pinay. I received about 2-responses. Boring I guess when those in the know would rather "yip" about bombs, beheading and dismemberment? The "Smith" guy has disappeared for months now. Maybe he got shot with his highly skilled squadron? Hope not. I'm still coming. Never been a "soldier," nor a "soldier of fortune" like a whole bunch of Arnold S, I see on here. You're not helpful. You're boring and tedious with your drama. I've traveled in far worse places. Do any of you tough guys know where Caracas is??? I will be there in Baguio in October. Armed with a positive outlook, ready warm smile, and a genuine interest in the new culture I look forward to joining in. I'm learning Taglish and I'm determined to blend in as much as a 6'-2", 230 lb. American can with a beautiful Pinay partner. If I fail it won't be from lack of an attempt to join in. Carry on with the fear mongering. Are you part of the "Trumph" campaign. See you in October. Ciao!!

Philippines: TV fanatics:

I'm searching high and low for the best means possible to resume some TV habits while there. HBO, Showtime. Would love to get Netflix. My brother has this in Las Vegas. It is a one time purchase price under $100 and it gets it all. OK so some Tekkie tell me my this won't work in the Philippines. LOL. Don't know if I should buy one or not. https://kodi.tv/ Thank you. :)

Philippines: Baguio area-long term rental:

Hi everyone. Have enjoyed this site immensely over the last several months. The time is growing close as my Filipina partner and I will be looking for a place when we get to Baguio Oct. 4th. I've combed the Internet without much luck. All the ads are for Hotel/Resort/ Buy a home. I've picked up on the "boots on the ground" method advised by some and it sure makes sense. I'm just wondering if anyone might recommend a nice little suburb/village??? bordering Baguio. My in laws live in Rosario FYI. I guess my priorities are security, and not to be in an area where floods are prevalent. Any input is welcome. Hoping for a 2-Bdr. furnished. $15K???Thank you!!

Philippines: Common question about the visiting the Philippines:

POOL?? Did you say P O O L???? LOL. I moved into a place in Tagaytay after seeing the brochure with a beautiful pool. I was prepared to die there. I woke up the morning after I moved in to go to the pool and the guard told me the developers took the water out after those who owned balked at paying 250-P everytime they visited the pool (for upkeep). I'm moving out Thursday and it can't come fast enough. 2-weeks + of my life I'll never get back. Oh but lessoned learned. Next time I move into a place from being impressed by the pool area I'll ask if there will be water in it "tomorrow." LOL.
