Malaysia: What is Best visa for spending 6 months per year in Penang:

Hey there, Malaysian immigration usually grants travellers a social visit pass at the airport. A typical duration for an American is 3 months and for a Singaporean that would be a month. You could probably do a "visa run" however the authorities would probably be reluctant to grant you a pass after a few "visa runs". If you are planning to visit Malaysia regularly, you might want to consider a Malaysia My Second Home Visa. The main criteria for this would be to show financial capacity (ie. show that you have an income equivalent to RM10,000/- per month & cash of RM500,000 if you're under 50yrs and RM350,000/- if you're over 50yrs. On approval you will be required to place a fixed deposit (RM150,000/- if you're over 50 yrs and RM300,000/- if you're under 50 yrs) in a bank in Malaysia for the duration of the visa. The visa is granted typically for 10 yrs. Hope that helps!
